Trips: Swift River
The Swift River is an outflow of the Quabbin Reservoir located off of Route 9 in Belchertown, MA. The river offers a paddle of about 5 miles of crystal clear water.
The water is cool all through summer and allows a view of several species of fish straight down to the river's sandy bottom. The River is typically about 40 feet wide and 8 feet deep with a gentle current.
This is also a great place to spot wildlife. On one trip we saw a great horned owl, mallards, a muskrat, a painted turtle, a snapping turtle, 6 species of fish and several species of songbirds.
