Crater Lake - Summer of 1997
Click picture to enlarge

Melinda and her small friend Mel is feeding her new little friend at Crater Lake. The picture doesn't really show the incredible blue color of the water. The water was the deepest blue we had ever seen! The lake is so deep that the sun's rays all get absorbed except for the blue which is the lowest. The lake is special in many ways. It is the deepest in North America! It's water supply comes from snow and rain only. No streams or rivers. These pictures were taken with a $100 35mm camera and scanned in.

Beautiful Crater lake, Oregon
The lake that sits in a volcano. There is a 50 km. road that circles the lake with viewpoints everywhere. Camping is allowed in some areas. They don't allow you to launch your own boats, but they do offer a 3-4 hour boat ride around the lake that requires you to hike down (and back up) a semi-steep trail roughly 45 minutes each way. We passed on the boat ride because of the large number of tourists doing the boat thing. The boat does allow you to see Wizard island though. Next time.

To the next summer trip (Telegraph Cove)
