Difference between Aracaunas
and Ameracaunas

Purebreed aracaunas are rumpless and have tufts of feathers around their earlobes but are very rare to find. Most hatcheries sell ameracaunas under the name aracaunas. Ameracaunas lay green and blue eggs and have tufts of feathers but are not rumpless. Ameracaunas are the product of American farmers breeding aracaunas with heavier breeds in the attempt to have the colored egg trait in a larger chicken. Ameracaunas are slightly larger then aracaunas but aren't very big. Hens weigh between 2-4 pounds and cocks weigh between 3-5pounds. Both aracaunas and ameracaunas have peacombs.
