Welcome to my gallery of 3D stereo photography including stereo views of the Grand Canyon, the Smoky Mountains, Canada, England, France and more.  The galleries are online once again!  You can also visit this same page at my new host here.

Me at the Grand Canyon.

In these galleries I'm using the Stereoscope java applet to display my stereo images in a variety formats including red/blue anaglyph, parallel and cross-eyed. To use this applet your browser must support java 1.1.

If you have any trouble with the applet not working correctly, please check the browser page on the stereoscope homepage. It has information for using a variety of browsers on pcs, macs and other computers. I have used Netscape Navigator 4.08 successfully. Internet Explorer 4.0 requires installing an updated java virtual machine and instructions for this are included on the browser page. IE 5.0 runs successfully without any additional updates.

The preview images on this page are jpeg files in the cross-eyed format. They are just samples to encourage those who don't have a java 1.1 capable browser to get one. Eventually I hope to make jps (jpeg stereo) versions of these images available for use with lcs goggles and those who do not use java 1.1.

Once you enter a gallery the preview images will start to load. Under each preview image is the Stereoscope button: Click to start the Stereoscope applet. Clicking on the button will open the java applet window and begin downloading the full size image. When the image has completed downloading it should appear in the default cross-eye format. If you would prefer to view the image in a different format, click on the view menu and select another viewing mode. Once you select the mode on the first image the other images should default to the same viewing mode.

If you do not have any red/blue 3-d glasses or other viewing device, such as a lorgnette, cross-eyed viewing is probably the easiest method to use.

For excellent instructions on how to cross-eye free-view stereo images, take a look at 'How to "Free-view" Stereo Pairs' on Boris Starosta's "3D Showcase: Applied Stereography". It does take some work to master the technique, but it is well worth the effort. You can practice with the sample images on this page.

The full sized images are best viewed at 1024x768 resolution. If your screen resolution is less than this, or if you are parallel viewing, you may want to use the options on the Size menu of the applet window to reduce the image so that it can be comfortably viewed.

All pictures shown were taken with my Realist 3.5 using Fuji Velvia film. All shots were hand-held and most were shot at 1/50th of a second exposure. I mount my own slides for hand viewing and projection in Spicer cardboard foldover mounts using an RBT mount as a jig.

For this web page the slides were scanned on an HP PhotoSmart Photo scanner. The images were then 'mounted' using the VRex Depthcharge Developers Studio. Once the pairs were aligned I used Adobe PhotoDeluxe to adjust the image size, color and overall sharpness and remove any dust particles or scratches introduced in the scanning process.
