Never swim alone!! This belt loop requires an adult to be present at all times.

To earn the belt loop:

_____1. Know and practice water safety rules. Explain the buddy system.

_____2. Learn to be comfortable in the water by playing water games such as treasure hunt, shark, water dodgeball, or a game you make up.

_____3. If you do not know how to swim learn to swim using the paddle stroke or crawl. 

_____4. If you already know how to swim, attempt to pass the Scouting beginner swim test. Jump feet first into water over your head, surface, level off, swim 25 yards/meters, turn sharply without support, and swim back to the starting point.

_____5. If you have previously passed the beginner test, attempt to pass the Scouting swimmer test. Swimmers must swim 75 yards/meters in a strong manner with either a sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen or crawl stroke; continue to swim another 25 yards/meters on the back with an easy, resting stroke; and rest by floating with minimum movement for 1 minute.

_____6. Demonstrate good sportsmanship while participating in this sport.
