Well Ok it's not "The Grand Canyon" but it's a grand canyon and it's found just outside of Blackheath in the Blue Mountains of Australia. There's a popular walking track that runs along the top of the canyon proper and on warm summer days the place gets quite hectic. So to advoid the rush of mad tourists an early start is essential.

The well worn track from the car park cuts its way down to the creek and along the more open upper canyon. It's a pleasant walk through patches of fern, under overhanging cliff, through a waterfall and even a small tunnel. We are early enough that we only pass a few other walkers before reaching the point where the creek drops away from the track, down into the narrow confine of the dark canyon. From light into dark
