You have put together a very formative site on hiking in O'ahu. I went through every page and picture and made many print outs of the various trails you and your friends went on. I will be going really soon and will enjoy the many sites that you traveled. I thank you for the pictures and information. Helpful hints: There are a few pictures that did not come up on your site and the e-mail does not work. Keep up the good work!

awesome page, the directions to these hikes can be hard to fin but your page was ver useful. You should try the Haiku stairway to Tripler hospital hike though. Go to the barrel and there is a trail just beyond it, take the ridge to the right and you can h ke all the way to Tripler Hospital, it's a great hike.

Just searching around for hawaii stuff, and found your web site. As a hiker, I really think you've done a great job, I found it very interesting to read about your hikes and see the pictures. If I know of anyone planning a hiking trip to Hawaii, I'll point them to your page - it's a good hiking guide. Went to Hawaii in 1988 for my honeymoon, and hiked the NaPali coast in Kauai - gorgeous! If only we could have gotten all those noisy tourist helicopter tours to get out of our face, and make the zodiac tour boats leave the beaches so we could do some nude sunbathing in private! Anyway, great site! Jannette from New Jersey who wishes she was hiking in Hawaii.

Very nice pics. I used to live on what was Sacred Falls resort road, the next road going west. I came for a visit every summer of my High School years. My brother and his roommate lived there. But of course this was in 1970, 1971 and 1972. Nice memory . I worked at a Shell gas station at Makiki and Beritania St. in Honolulu. Every morning I would look into the Sacred Falls valley and could not get over the beauty! Haven't been back since 1979. Also lived with the Soren's in 1969 Laie. Very close f mily friends. Thanks for the pictures. Jack Hood

Wow...I was just impressed with the whold adventure. Me and some buddies had tried to find the steps and never had the same luck, only abandoned buildings, and open areas. We saw the hole in the fence after taking the left road, about 15 minutes from w ere the the road split, but decided it was not the way to go!! Oh well, now we know, and next weekend we'll go again, prepared this time, gloves, and defenitely some food for celebration at the top!!

Stuart M. Ball's book, "The Hiker's Guide to O'ahu lists Hia'iku Stairs in the Appendix called "Closed Hikes!" I suppose that is why you had to go through a hole in the fence. Tresspassing on these closed hikes is a good way to get yourself into trouble

Alex: I am truly impressed. Not only are you the master of the mat, the stud of strangulation, the chancellor of choke, you are a true renaissance man. What other surprises do you have for us? I'm almost afraid to ask what you used as a baseline measurement in determining the difficulty of the hikes. Did I mention that I suffer from vertigo. Should I factor that in to the difficulty equation:) Jeff

Hey Alex, I'm pretty sure you remember who I am. I met you at Oceans with Scot. I wish we had met earlier and then I'd be in some of those pics. When I get back, we'll have to tackle some more terrain. Looking at your page got me stoked to do some more hiking. Alas, Scot and I are stuck on Wake Island (an atoll in the Pacific Ocean) where the highest elevation is Mount Wake at 21 feet above sea level. I'll certainly need to be re-aclimatated to the elevation changes of the Oahu trails. Hope you're having fun in Samoa. Take Care, I'll keep checking your site to keep my mind wondering about what's over the next ridge. -Dave (knight@ohm.com)
