I have been "playing" with r.c. boats for about 5 years now, and was racing regularly with the Gold Coast Model Power Boat Club, until I dislocated my patela (kneecap). Realizing I would be off my feet for some time, I started building electric boats. The rationalisation being that I could get them in the water easier than a nitro boat with less danger to myself and other boaters. Also I could then run in the local pond, which doesn't allow i.c. engines and is only 10 minutes away, compared to 1 hour for the Gold Coast.
2 years later, I'm hooked on electric, and still can't turn well on my 'trick' knee. Here in South East Queensland, and probably in the rest of Australia, Fast electrics are rare and are regarded as "kids toys".Most you see are scale boats, doing scale speed, or kids playing with their Kyosho Christmas presents.
I have noticed the AMPBA (Australian Model Power Boat Association), does have rules and guidlines for electric racing, so someone is racing somewhere, I presume in the Southern capitals - Melbourne or Sydney - some 1800 & 1000 kms away.
This brings me to why I constructed this site. I am hoping to create enough enthusiasm amongst local modelers to start a local fast electric club.
