[Driverless!!!] [Bank Time] [October Calendar] [Complaints of the U.S. Forest Service] [Help!] [Advancement (New Eagle!)]

DRIVERLESS!!!

All the boys were all charged up to go on this month's Rancho Las Flores trip on the 21st of August. Later they Iearned they wouldn’t be going because of lack of drivers. This happens at least once a year and is always disappointing. So scouts next time there is a camping trip please ask your parents to volunteer to drive.

BANK TIME [Top]

On the 28th a small group of scouts consisting of: Andy S., Eric, David, Mark, Ryan, Jacob, and Bobby visited a bank. They did this for one of the requirements for the Personal Management merit badge. They visited the First National Bank of North County in Vista. They talked to Mr. Tarquini about checking accounts, savings accounts, loans, ATMs, and toured. If you would like to get the Personal Management merit badge, talk to Mrs. Shamel to set up an appointment.

COMPLAINTS OF THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE [Top][Next]

This list is circulating among Forest Service employees. These are actual comments left last year on Forest Service registration sheets and comment cards by backpackers completing wilderness camping trips:
"A small deer came into my camp and stole my bag of pickles. Is there a way I can get reimbursed? Please call."
"Escalators would help in the steep uphill sections."
"Instead of a permit system or regulations, the Forest Service needs to reduce worldwide population growth to limit the number of visitors to the wilderness."
"Trails need to be wider so people can walk holding hands."
"Ban walking sticks in the wilderness. Hikers that use walking sticks are more likely to chase animals."
"All the mile markers are missing this year."
"Found a smoldering cigarette left by a horse."
"Trails need to be reconstructed. Please avoid building trails that go uphill."
"Too many bug, leeches, spiders, and spider webs. Please spray the wilderness to rid the area of pests."
"Please pave the trails so they can be plowed of the snow in the winter."
"Chair lifts need to be in some places so that we can get to the wonderful places without having to hike them."
"The coyotes made to much noise last night and kept me awake. Please eradicate the annoying animals."
"Reflectors need to be placed on trees every so often so people can hike at night with flashlights."
"Need more signs to keep the area pristine."
"The places where trails do not exist are not well marked."
"Too many rocks in the mountains."
