TRAINING BACKPACK AT DOS CABEZAS
Watch for trolls sitting under the bridge Hiking Still hiking (Are we there yet?) (Click on these pics for larger pics, then right click and "Save picture as" if you want.)
Eight Scouts headed out in December for our annual training backpack. The hike started at the old Dos Cabezas railroad siding ruins and wanders past many relics from the construction of the San Diego & Arizona Railroad.
Home, sweet home (Can you dig it?) The other house (Can it!)
Among the places visited were a couple of old railroad camps, one with a dugout house and another made of blasting powder cans. A short side trip led to one of the railroad tunnels.
After five miles of backpacking we arrived at the cave we called camp. In spite of the hike we learned that a Scout is never too tired to climb rocks and there were plenty to climb. A Scout is never too tired to climb rocks
Check out this art work Pictographs
Around the corner from camp were some fantastic Indian pictographs.
Enjoying the warm (but small) fire These guys really did crawl back under a rock to sleep
After a small campfire the guys crawled under the rock (cave) to sleep.
The gang's all here We made it! This show was brought to you by the letter J
We hope to have several more backpacks this year. These will be by invitation to those who participated in the training hike or have shown experience on prior troop backpacks.

CAMPOUT AT LITTLE BLAIR VALLEY
Five Webelos from Pack 662 joined us in January for our campout in the high desert. We hiked to another set of Indian paintings and then on to Smuggler Canyon for an interesting view of the desert. Our pioneering skills came in use when we lashed a couple of tripods to make a frame for one of the Webelos families who forgot their tent poles!
