"Each year, Audubon's Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland, Florida receives over 600 injured or orphaned raptors. Nearly 85% of all injuries to the birds admitted are related to human interaction, including gunshot wounds, collisions with cars and powerlines, poisonings and loss of habitat. With prompt care, many birds can be returned to the wild. Those who cannot be released are permanently cared for at the Center's aviary. Since 1979, the Center has treated over 8,000 birds of prey and released 3,800 - including over 200 Bald Eagles - back to the wild." |
