Myths and Facts About Squirrels

• Myth: Squirrels are nothing more than bushy-tailed rats.
• Fact: Although squirrels and rats are both rodents, they are nowhere near related. Above is just like saying that humans are tailless lemurs.
• Myth: Squirrels have no brain 'cause they're always running into the street.
• Fact: Squirrels are smart creatures which are often misunderstood. Squirrels often run into the street probably to try to confuse the drivers.
• Myth: Squirrels have no right to invade people's houses or gardens.
• Fact: Squirrels have every right. They were here first.
• Myth: Squirrels reproduce rapidly and sport hunting is how to control them.
• Fact: The rate squirrels reproduce is a result of sport hunting rather than a cause because they adapted. Squirrel reproduction rate will eventually slow down if people stop shooting them, and there will still be no population problem. Thus, hunting is not a solution to a problem, but a commitment to a permanent problem.
