Sylvia
A Squirrel to Remember

Here is a story about a squirrel who I have become acquainted with at my college campus. I first met her by the Student Services building next to the cafeteria. She had a white nose, a brown body, and her tail wasn't very bushy.

Sylvia was the only squirrel who would ever let me pet her. The first time she let me pet her, I gave her an almond and then I decided to touch her tail. She stayed still. Then I started petting her back. No other squirrel would let me do that. She was the only one.

A few months after we met, Sylvia was able to recognize me and even climb up my leg to get an almond. I thought she would become my official college campus pet. But I thought wrong.

After some time, I was looking everywhere for Sylvia but I couldn't find her. Days past. Then weeks. I thought maybe one of the cats or a hawk got her. But I could never accept that.

If Sylvia is truly gone forever, she is survived in two different ways. Not only have I noticed that she has made a nest in one of the buildings and produced two children to carry out chances that there will be more like her, she also remains in my memory as well.
