Here is Tom Moltz and he has an important message for all you who are interested in taking up spelunking as a hobby.

If you haven't started caving....Don't! Its hard on your body and causes premature aging. You age about 5 years for every year you cave (exempt for your knees, they age 10 to 1). You get infections and lung diseases like hystoplasmosis. If you want to see what caving is like then try the following.

1. Have an assistant work a ball pean hammer over your shin bones and spine.

2. Drop a concrete block on your foot from a height of 5 feet.

3. Have someone throw a shovel full chicken droppings in your face with your mouth and eyes open, while your inhaling.

4. Spray down with cold water on a winter day, roll around in a pig pin and then crawl under your car.

With most sports you can quit when you want, not in caving. Your tired, thirsty, hungry, wet, cold, lost, your body hurts, and you have a long way to go to get out. If you live through doing this a few years you have friends that have died or been crippled. My advice to anyone is quit while your ahead. Take up something like Rock Climbing which is easier, safer and a more fun.
