In 1806, John Colter, decided that he would return to the mountains he had visited with the Lewis and Clark expedition and trap the elusive beaver of the "High Shining." In 1810, Colter, had returned to the settlements after several years of mountain mishaps and a final run in with the Blackfeet Indians gave him the feeling that his luck had run out. After only two years in the more civilized Missouri Country, he died of jaundice. During his travels in the Rocky Mountains, Colter, explored the Big Horn and the Wind River valleys, crossed the continental divide twice and ventured into the Yellowstone area from where he returned with stories which gained for him a reputation as a confirmed liar that took some years to become vindicated, but Colter was already "gone under." Native American superstition and Colter's tales of a land where steam burst forth from the "bowels of hell" proceeded other explorers who confirmd the tall tales of lands more vast, mystical, and beautiful than any previously documented on the North American Continent.

Travel with me now, revisit and explore another time, another place, another era long gone. While I build this site and write more about those who have gone on before us, while I try my hand at some graphics, introduce some poetry, or just wind some tall tale, I hope you will feel free to browse the links I've installed. This page has been created for those involved in, or interested in living history to give them links to other people on the web with a simular fascination of a time which is past and far away, yet still maintained, in a sense, closely attuned to the heart. Within the confines of this page you will find links to sites that deal with the early history of the North American Continent particularly those sites which offer historically accurate equipment, clothing, firearms, edged weapons, and traditional trade goods.
