Moose are found in North America and in Northern Europe. Its habitat consists of woodland with nearby open country. They are also found in areas near water, especially in summer, where they spend their time around marshlands, river valleys and lakes.
Moose are generally solitary creatures but may form small herds during the winter months. They are excellent swimmers despite their size and can run up to 35 mph.Their long legs allow them to jump obstacles as high as themselves.Moose are generally mild in temperament and will tolerate approaching humans and vehicles.Breeding season usually starts in late September or early October. After a gestation period of eight months a female will give birth to a singl calf or twins.Calves at birth can weigh 24 to 35 lbs,can stand within a few hours and can swim at 2 weeks.
Moose eat a variety of different foods.Tree shoots and twigs from both deciduous and coniferous trees, large herbs, leaves and their favorite summertime food is aquatic vegetation. On average a moose will eat about 44 lbs of vegetation a day.
