Battle 2: Good and Evil |
PY: Hi, everyone, and welcome to another exciting Yoshi Stadium battle, our second of the 2004 season! I'm your host, Pirate Yoshi, and we're here LIVE in Mute City for a battle of the times: Good versus Evil, and Light versus Darkness! During the last match, we witnessed an early defeat for Mario, who was our undefeated champion of 2003, and Link pulled out the win over Pikachu! Today's match will again feature Mario and Link, but they will this time be fighting side by side, versus an even greater foe: their two worst nightmares, Bowser and Ganondorf! Even though everyone likes to call the shots around here and say the classic line, "Good will triumph over evil," we're not so sure in this match up! We're also going one referee tonight, Goomba, and my commrade-in-arms, Slow Joe Crow, is already down on the field with one of the fighters! Down to you, Crow! SC: Hello, hello, and I'm down here tonight with Yoshi Stadium legend Super Mario! Mario, WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK?! Mario: I'd-a rather not talk about it-a. SC: I understand. Do you think you can pick it up and win this season still? Mario: I DON'T-A WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT-A! SC: Okay....how are your chances of winning this match? Mario: Good. SC: I'm sure it helps having last week's winner and perhaps the strongest player this season, Link, on your side, eh? Mario: ..........I don't-a want to talk about it-a.... SC: Seems Mario's giving us some silent treatment... Back to you, Pirate. PY: The stage is set, the lights are dimmed, and everyone here is on the edge of their seats as they await the start of another epic battle! Goomba blows the whistle, and our two-man melee is underway! SC: Bowser immediately kicks Ganondorf in the butt, and Ganondorf looks pretty mad. M: 100% L: 100% B: 100% G: 98% Ganondorf: YOU'RE ON MY TEAM, YOU MORON! Bowser: Oh.......my bad. Heh heh heh....... PY: Now that THAT'S been straightened out..... Link grabs his bow and lets fly, hitting Ganondorf head-on with a well-placed shot! Mario tries to help out with some fire power, but Bowser plunges right through the barrage of projectiles and swats Link away with a massive claw. He grabs Mario before he can run, then spins around and hurls the plumber across the arena! Oof....it'll take more than some arrows and fire balls to stop the King of Koopas! M: 90% L: 92% B: 94% G: 98% SC: Ganondorf comes to back up Bowser, and they both stomp towards Link, who frantically looks for a good weapon to use. He clutches his boomerang and throws it, but Bowser catches it with a huge claw, then crushes it into woodchips before Link's eyes! Link knows he's in trouble, but his teammate is nowhere to be seen....where did Mario go? PY: Over there. He seems to be pretty badly hurt, because he's not getting up. Mario is writhing about on the ground, and it looks like Link is in some deep doodoo... He's well aware, apparently, because he's drawn his sword--Link wouldn't be the Hero of Time if he were to go down without a fight, eh? Ganondorf reaches out for him, and Link smacks him away with the sword. Bowser tries to slash the Hylian, but Link blocks the blow with his blade, then returns the favor with a quick slash. Link quickly turns and swats Ganondorf again, but the two villains are too powerful, and they smother Link finally in a mass of flailing fists and feet. M: 90% L: 84% B: 90% G: 85% SC: This is getting ugly very quickly. Link has no help, and Bowser has driven him to the arena floor! With no teammate backing him up and no chance to defend himself, he's being pummeled--no, that's a MASSACRE! This match will be over by half time at this rate! Link's doing his best to shield himself from as many of the punches and kicks as possible on the ground, but he can barely hold up at all, and is taking more and more damage by the second! Thank goodness, the referee has just blown the whistle! Poor Link has taken an EXTREME beating, and he probably would've been taken out of the match in short order had it not been for this penalty...whatever it is.... M: 90% L: 39% B: 90% G: 85% PY: Let's just hope it's not against him. Goomba: Serious injury on the field. Medical examination required before play is to resume. PY: And an interpertation of the call: something had to be done to save Link. SC: Yeah, that was a pretty dumb call. I mean, this is a FIGHT! You don't stop a fight because someone is hurt, and odds are usually good that someone else in the match worked pretty hard to GET that player hurt! Calling a penalty like that negates all the hard work that player put in! PY: True, but we all know that the real reason behind this call was so that Link could get a chance to regain his breath and squirm his way out of death's path. He was definately doomed had this penalty not come, and he still very well may be--he took some harsh hits in there, and if Mario can't be of assistance, I'd say Bowser and Ganondorf are going to send him packing in rather short order. SC: Goomba has approached Mario and is checking him over. And it would appear that Mario is perfectly fine, other than he aches and doesn't want to stand up and get hurt some more. Sad, I really would've expected better from Mario--I guess last season's win really did spoil him quite badly, because he's out-and-out whiney this season! I mean, the nerve to let your teammate get thrashed because you can't bear the pain and at least get to your feet! Sheesh.... PY: For delay of game, Mario will be penalized....but how? SC: Ooo, ooo, I know! PY: Yes! Exactly! Making their first appearance this season, it is.....the MOLASSES SHOES! *dun dun duuuuuh!* SC: Oooo.......nasty! Now that Mario is wearing his sticky footwear, play is ready to continue. Of course, we all know what to expect from this form of punishment, having seen it before last season, and I'm sure Mario won't disappoint us... PY: Goomba calls for play to continue, and--immediately--Mario is stuck to the floor. It's not that he's not trying to run, and it's not even that he's frozen with fear. It's just that he simply can't move while wearing those darn Molasses Shoes! *dun dun duuuuuh!* Not really his fault, parsay, but he's definately going to take a beating if he doesn't figure out how to move while wearing those things! SC: Oh, Bowser'll make him move, I'm sure! Bowser tromps up to our plucky (if not entirely stuck) plumber, and grabs him, pulling him up into the air. Then, he releases, and Mario snaps back down to the floor like a rubber band, bouncing crazily everywhere as he tries to regain his balance! Bowser makes his knuckles into fists, then begins to let loose on Mario like he's his own personal punching bag! Mario'll be seeing stars when he gets out of this......if he gets out of this! M: 72% L: 39% B: 90% G: 85% PY: Link rushes in behind Bowser and slashes him across the back of the shell, not a very effective means of attack, but distracting, nonetheless. Bowser turns to defend his backside from Link, and Mario takes advantage and backflips in the air, stretching the molasses on his shoes until it snaps him back forwards again, feet-first! He clobbers the Koopa King in the back with the extra momentum built up by his stretchy foot barrier, and Bowser takes a tumble! That's turning a penalty around to help! M: 72% L: 39% B: 71% G: 85% SC: Ganondorf enters the fray and quickly batters back Link with some punches and kicks, and Mario throws some fireballs in desperation. Ganondorf turns his sights on Mario, and delivers a powerful punch that knocks Mario right out of the Molasses Shoes and across the arena! OWCH! M: 48% L: 30% B: 71% G: 80% PY: We're almost done with the half, but our heroes are definately not fairing so well. Link quickly searches his inventory, and draws out a bomb, lighting it as Bowser marches towards him. Bowser stops, and it's come down to a stand-off! If I were Link, I'd keep an eye on that fuse and make sure I'm not holding that bomb for too long. SC: Likewise, if I were Bowser (and glad I am that I'm not), I would also be watching that bomb. Link's got plenty of time to throw it in, and if he throws it too early, Bowser could very well grab it and chuck it back with a real fatality factor involve! By the same token, if he holds it long enough, Bowser had better be ready to run! We'll soon find out what Link's going to do with his armed explosive... PY: The fuse burns down lower and lower, and Bowser looks a bit fidgety, trying to decide whether he should flee or wait a second longer. Then, with lightning speed, Link throws the bomb, and it dentonates right on the King of Koopas, sending him high-tailing his way backwards to safer ground! Direct hit! Ganondorf stomps towards Link, but the Hero of Time pulls another bomb immediately, lighting it as he holds it up in his hands, and he quickly bombardes Ganondorf with a bomb all his own! While these bombs are quite effective, I'm sure Link's got a limited supply of them--and it looks like he might've ran out already... M: 48% L: 30% B: 50% G: 62% SC: Mario runs back to help Link out a little, pitching fireballs, but he's a bit late, and the half ends. As we go to our studios for our special half-time show, our current scores are Mario: 48% Link: 30% Bowser: 50% Ganondorf: 58% ********** PY: Hi, everyone, we're here at half-time with our usual host, Bomber Link! How're you doing on this fine day, BL? BLink: Very well. My Nintendo's Mansion Horror Survival season is coming close to its close. Luckily I have not had to do much there. The contestants basically get everything done themselves. PY: That's great. My first question for you today is, were you at all surprised to find out who won our last fight? BLink: Not really. Link is a very well trained fighter and he put good effort into winning that battle. He deserved it. PY: Would you think that the heroes would easily win this bout, having last year's champ and our first 2004 winner fighting side-by-side? BLink: I honestly was thinking that the heroes would have had this battle under raps from the start. But I guess there was this nagging doubt in the back of my mind. Their arch enemies unite to try and defeat them, that could be a terrible pair of baddies. Just as long as the fighters keep on their toes, the next half should prove to be very interesting and exciting. PY: How is everyone sizing up out there, anyways? BLink: I really feel that Mario could have contributed more during the first half. He was able to show great talent and ability in the first season, maybe that has worn him down for the second season. Maybe he is saving his energy for the second half. We will have to wait and see. As for the other fighters, I feel they have all contributed their own abilities greatly to the fray. Link is especially sizing up well for getting pounded into oblivion at the beggining. PY: Looking from the point of Ganondorf, one of the more underrated fighters in the league, what needs to be done to gain a little publicity and get yourself on track for a championship? BLink: A face job, some weight lifting, a less annoying laugh, picture on a coffee mug, a couple appearances on some TV shows, and he should be back in business. Of course, if he doesn't have good agents or the money for that, then I feel he should try and utilize the skills he has to the fullest and just win a few battles. PY: Time for one last question, and I'll give you the same one I gave Fierce back when he did half time show last time: got any ideas for a new catchphrase? BLink: Umm... Bomber Link is number one! Woo hoo! Eh-hem... Not really I guess. I will have to get back to you on that one. And with that I am gone for the night! PY: Well, thanks very much for the interview, and we'll see how things turn out! ********** PY: Hi, everyone, and welcome back to our battle! As is becoming tradition during this year, we've got a few words to say about this arena, and--actually--a few words about the referee, too! Shall we start with the referee, Crow? SC: Yeah, let's hear something about Goomba. PY: Well, may it be known that Goomba is actually one of the oldest referees in the league, and he's actually officiated over one hundred Yoshi Stadium battles, including three chamionship matches! As such, he's the hardest-working referee in the league, and is known for his grumpy, take-no-excuses attitude, which makes him a perfect referee. While he once planned to enter the tournament, he let time slip away and found himself too old to possibly take on the younger, stronger fighters. As a result, Goomba never got into the tournament and has stuck to reffing all these years instead, although he sometimes jokes about finally getting into the tournament still. SC: Wow, those are some stats to be proud of for Goomba! How about a description of our battle field today? PY: Our battle today is taking place in Mute City, arguabley the most popular F-Zero Grand Prix racing track in the world. It's signature red light rails utilize advanced technology, and the pavement is fine and pure-concentration mineral stone--there's no flaws to be found anywhere on the track! While millions of citizens call Mute City home, the city itself is a little dark and seedy, with some underworld activity constantly going on, and shifty-eyed villains and smugglers constantly on the prowl. We advise any viewers who might have walked to today's match to use extreme caution when returning to their vehicle, hotel, or home, depending on where you'll be leaving to. Mute City is definately not a friendly night-life place, and you wouldn't want to be caught after dark in one of these alleys without some big weaponry. SC: No, I don't think I would, and Goomba is returning to the field to start the second half. He blows the whistle, and we're underway again! PY: Link opens the second half by delivering solid running-hacks at both Bowser and Ganondorf with his Master Sword, driving them backwards and evening out the sides a little at last. Bowser slashes at the Hylian, but Link uses his sword to block the monster's claws, then holds strong while Mario begins to attack with his fireballs again, which seem to be overused in this battle.... Is it just me, or are Mario's fireballs becoming less and less effective, as he uses them more and more? M: 48% L: 30% B: 39% G: 48% SC: He's definately gotta find some new attacks, because not only are his fireballs doing less and less damage, but they're also becoming more and more predictable. Ganondorf and Bowser could feasibly dodge every one of them now, but they hardly need to--their bodies are practically immune to the flames now, having been hit so many times by them! Mario'd better have a better ace up his sleeve than that! Link can't hold Bowser off any longer, and gets swatted across the arena, hitting the ground hard. M: 48% L: 20% B: 39% G: 48% PY: Mario bravely lures Ganondorf and Bowser close, then sucks them in suddenly with a Spin Jump, rapidly punching the two villains crazily as he twirls like a mustachioed cyclone. With a final smack, he knocks both his enemies away in opposite directions, effectively seperating them for easier attacks and causing some much-needed damage in the process. Link is back on his feet, but he looks a little bit shaken from that last hit... He'd better maintain his wits, if he and Mario are to turn this thing around... M: 48% L: 20% B: 30% G: 39% SC: Mario punches Bowser to the ground before the Koopa King can attack, then quickly grabs and throws him away again, gaining the upperhand. Ganondorf creeps up behind Mario, however, and grabs him from behind before the plumber can react. Link rushes to save Mario, but doesn't get there before Bowser has gotten back to his feet and kicked Mario in the stomach. Hard. Link draws his sword and jabs Ganondorf with it strongly, sending the villain soaring through the air into Bowser. Mario's wheezing, and the playing field is almost even at last. M: 35% L: 20% B: 28% G: 26% PY: But how long will it last for? I'd drop an item to see some real action, but I can't--I'm still on Item Deprivation from our first battle.... Bowser turns quickly and blasts both Link and Mario with a wave of damaging flames, and Ganondorf takes the opportunity to let loose a long-reaching kick that sends Link spiraling backwards through the air! Link's almost out of this match, so Mario had better do his best to keep both villains at bay long enough to give Link some energy back! M: 30% L: 6% B: 28% G: 26% SC: Mario leaps the flames in an act of bravery and lands a coin-flying uppercut right on Bowser's chin, knocking the fire-breathing baddie skywards abruptly. Bowser flies straight into the air, and Mario quickly grabs Ganondorf from behind and begins rapidly attacking him. Bowser, high in the air, realizes that he is directly over Mario, and quickly drops through the sky like a lead weight, falling directly at Mario. Before Mario knows what's happening, Bowser smashes onto him with a ton of force, and Mario is thrown across the ground in a cloud of dust. This is grim looking for the heroes. M: 15% L: 6% B: 16% G: 20% PY: Link has staggered back up, and--realizing that he's not long for this world--is resorting to some long-range combat that will keep him relatively safe yet provide Mario with cover fire. Drawing his bow, he unleashes a shower of arrows at the two villains, hitting them both with multiple arrows! Bowser quickly ducks into his shell, and the arrows harmlessly bounce off. He scurries across the ground with ease, then pounces upon a helpless Mario, smashing him to the ground and delivering a final headbutt that ends the plumber's fight. Mario reels dizzily, and is out of the match! It's all down to Link, and he's fighting an uphill battle now. M: 0% L: 6% B: 11% G: 12% SC: Ganondorf doesn't have a way to defend himself from Link's arrows, so he quickly backs out of range, still taking hits as he flees for some support. Bowser quickly shuffles back through the rain of arrows, using his shell as a shield, and lunges at Link as he comes close. Link rolls aside at the last instant, narrowly escaping an instant death, and quickly turns and slashes Bowser with his sword, causing some huge damage. It doesn't matter, however, as Ganondorf sprints back across the arena behind Link and delivers a final kick. Link takes the blow in the back and falls forwards into Bowser, collapsing to the ground, and the villains have won the match by very little! M: 0% L: 0% B: 0% G: 7% PY: Hmm......seems Link's fall right into Bowser took off the final point of health he had. Ganondorf helped contribute to his teammate's demise. Nice. SC: But couldn't be said of, say, Mario, too? Had Mario done more earlier in the match--in particular, saving Link near the start--perhaps both he and the Hylian hero might've won this round. But, alas, this battle belongs to the villains, who have overcome the light side! PY: Pretty incredible. But, then again, as our 2004 quote goes, "Incredible things are always happening here at Yoshi Stadium!" Okay, so that's not really our new line, but "Victory doesn't come cheap" is. And in our next match, this will be shown more outright than ever, when two of the galaxy's best bounty hunters--newbie fighter Samus Aran and referee-turned-fighter Captain Falcon--clash for the ultimate prize, their first win ever, and a coveted early-jump in the 2004 season! Join us for the next battle of Yoshi Stadium's 2004 tournament, "Battle of the Bounty Hunters: Battle 3", only found on Yoshi Stadium! SC: Umm.....that would make sense, it being the, you know, Yoshi Stadium tournament. Isn't that kind of redundant? PY: Maybe, but I like to squeeze as many advertisements in as possible everywhere they fit, you know. |
