Mega Man Anniversary Collection |
It has been about 15 years now since Mega Man’s birth on the NES. Over the years, gamers have witnessed Mega Man become a huge success. As a celebration for Mega Man, Capcom has created the Mega Man Anniversary Collection. This wonderful disk holds the original Mega Man games, from the very first to the last. While some say Capcom only did this for cash, I differ. Not only did they give us one of the best game collections ever, but also they proved that they love us proud gamers. Capcom should be saluted for the quality of this game. The controls are great, although the jump and shoot buttons are reversed. These, along with one or two other buttons, are the only ones you are really going to need to use. However, the controller itself felt a bit weird, since it did not have that old controller sense to it. In addition, there is no lag, something I experienced with the Sonic Mega Collection. These games are nearly the exact same on the Gamecube, almost perfect ports. All Mega Man fans know the drill: Fight off eight robot masters, then find Wily and destroy him. Though nothing spectacular now a days, it was supreme then. The difficulty of the Mega Man series was insane, whether it was a boss battle or the stage in general. New gamers to the franchise will have a tough time playing through this, because it is a challenge. Except chances are that you will be remain playing, just to beat that level. When everything else is added into the mix, this is a great package for anyone to pick it. Moreover, it is only 30 dollars. Since this is a direct port, the graphics still have their nostalgia charm. I really respect the retro side of gaming, and after playing this collection; I love it even more. This is a great example of how graphics do not make a game. Subsequently, the sound is amazing, simply put. I love the music in the series, because it’s straightforward, yet effective. It sounds great on the Gamecube version, and I am glad that it was not butchered. The only huge flaw in the collection is the sound in Mega Man 8. Most of the voices sound horrible, because of two reasons. The first is that some of the voices are impossible to hear. For example, a few of the boss characters squeal loudly, yelling something that is not English. Lastly, the effects are too high pitched for my tastes. Mega Man and Roll’s voice being a bit high is understandable, but the other characters should not. Eh, life goes on, right? The Mega Man series has always had high replay value, and the same can be said for MMAC. Obviously, there 8 separate games included in the Anniversary Collection, with a bonus of 2 hidden ones. Just with these games, many people will play them repeatedly quite a few times. Whenever you complete a specific Mega Man game, you receive bonuses. These range from songs, pictures, or even an interview. I guarantee that gamers, new and old, will still play MMAC years from now. As I have mentioned before, Mega Man Anniversary Collection is the best game collection on the market. With the vast amount of games, memories, and secrets, this is the perfect package for any Mega Man fan, or anyone into the old-school gaming. Simply said, Mega Man + Collection = Excellence. Final Score: 88/100 (Silver) |
