Star Fox Adventures
Ah, Conker's Bad Fur Day. What a wonderful game released by Rare. Unfortunately, CBFD is not the game I am reviewing. Instead, I am reviewing another Rare title, known as Starfox Adventures. Being Rare's final outing for the Gamecube, the entire gaming community held high hopes for it. However, Starfox Adventures is nothing more that a rip-off of Ocarina of Time with a cheesy storyline and boring fighting system. Follow me as I go in depth as to why this game was such a let down.

Graphics:

While there are many things to complain about in SFA, the graphics are not one of them. With possibly some of the greatest graphics on the Gamecube, SFA hits a homerun in this category. The water looks exceptionally well done, and just about everything in the game has that "surreal" look to it. It is honestly very difficult to say much more about the graphics in SFA, and let it be known that it is the only part of the game that was polished to near perfection.

Sound and Music:

SFA sports some nice tunes and sub-par voice acting. While Fox is voiced by someone other than the guy who voiced him in Melee, he still sounds like good old Fox McCloud. However, the real problems in the voice acting lie within just about EVERYONE else. Slippy and Peppy sound like their usual selves, which is fairly good voice acting, but the voices themselves are utterly annoying. Among them, other horrible voices are the dinosaurs throughout the game. All of them, especially Prince Tricky, have the most annoying and queer sounding voices of all time. It's truly sad that a company such as Rare, with all the money that Nintendo dished out to them, cannot afford voice actors who are up to par. The only reason this category is getting a higher score is because I enjoyed most of the music throughout the game.

Storyline:

Storyline is something that I truly enjoy in a game, which is something that everyone should know seeing as how I love the Final Fantasy series. Knowing that, Starfox Adventures has a very very weak storyline. It is up to Fox McCloud to defeat the evil General Scales and prevent him from destroying Dinosaur Planet, which in turn will destroy the entire Lylat Galaxy. Why don't bad guys ever realize that destroying the galaxy will destroy them as well? As I said, the storyline is very weak. Throw in a few plot twists here and there and that's all the game has to offer.

Gameplay:

The gameplay in SFA is another very very weak point. The fighting system involved targeting a bad guy and pressing random buttons, which will obliterate your enemy. While you do this most of the game, the boss fights tend to be more fun, as you are usually doing more than just smashing buttons. Too bad there are only five boss fights. Among pressing buttons, you will find yourself solving puzzles and collecting things. When I say collecting things, I mean COLLECTING things. Throughout the game you will have to collect four Spellstones and take them back to the Force Point Temples, which will bring chunks of the planet that have broken off back towards it. Also, you will have to collect 6 Krazoa Spirits in order to make those pieces of the planet STAY on the planet. Among those, you will collect Scarabs (Dinosaur Planet currency) which you use to buy other various pieces of crap throughout the game. Thrown into the game are moments where you must fly from chunk of the planet to another chunk of the planet, or back to the planet. This is old school style Starfox gaming, but doesn't really help the game out.

Controls:

Ok, maybe I was wrong. Graphics aren't the only element in the game that doesn't completely suck. The controls are very simple. You automatically target baddies, so press random buttons to attack them. The L button sidesteps and the R button defends. The C-Stick is used for Item Inventory and Staff Magic. The other buttons all have a purpose, but nobody honestly cares.

Replayability:

The game has absolutely none, unless you feel like going through it again. Once you make it to the end boss and save, you are unable to go back and do anything else…AT ALL. However, I'm hoping that by the end of this review, you will be influenced to not buy the game AT ALL.

Overall, Starfox Adventures had so much potential to be a great adventure game. However, Rare decided to take too many gameplay elements from Ocarina of Time and turn them into complete garbage. In the end, it was probably a good decision for Nintendo to sell Rare to Microsoft. Referring to Rare and Starfox Adventures, I will use an age old computer saying. Garbage In, Garbage Out.
