Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Well Ubisoft has produced a fantastic sequel to the highly acclaimed “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.” They take a fantastic story and make a new one that’s just as great as the last, if not greater. The Prince, now a battle-hardened bad@$$, finds that the physical form of fate (the Dahaka) is out to kill him. Finding out from a wise old man (who looks surprisingly similar to the Vizier) that the Dahaka is made after the Prince because he screwed up the Timeline, and things must be set straight. The only way for the Dahaka to fix the Timeline is to kill the Prince, and of course, he isn’t about to let that happen…

STORYLINE: The storyline was obviously well thought out. I mean this could have honestly been a novel. “A man finds out that he is destined for death, so with a sword in his hand he sets off to change his fate…”  I mean this is the best storyline I think I’ve seen in a game. Kudos Ubisoft. 9.9/10

GRAPHICS: The graphics are great to say the least. The Prince, Dahaka, and all the baddies look great and are greatly detailed. All of the rooms that you enter in this game are all well detailed. Every last brick and every piece of wood have a sense of realism about it. And then there is the fighting system, which I guess fits in this category; every movement is fluid and realistic. Well, as realistic as running across a wall and cutting a Blade Dancer in half can look. 9.7/10

MUSIC and SOUND: I have mixed feelings when it comes to this category. On one hand, you have Godsmack’s music contributed to the project (a great band by the way) and the voice talents of Monica Bellucci (great actress), but on the other hand, you have the Prince grunting and yelling in the same fashion throughout the entire game. Not to mention the dialogue for the bad guys is incredibly lame. “The pain is exquisite, I commend you.” –Blade Dancer (wtf?).  Fierce Deity tried to warn me about this, but I had to find out for myself. So in the end, the bad dialogue outdid the great rock music. 7.5/10

CONTROLS: This is a classic example of a game that may take a few minutes to get a handle on, but once you find out what exactly it is that you are supposed to do, there’s no stopping you. All of the Prince’s acrobatic moves are easy to master and fun to use again and again. I mean who gets sick of watching the Prince go from wall running to flipping around a pole? The “Free Form Fighting” system is absolutely fantastic. To be able to walk up to an enemy and have several ways of dispatching him is a load of fun and then some. This allows the player to get creative when it comes to a room of different enemies. (Hmm, first I’ll flip over him, cut his throat, then jump off the wall and split the other guy in half…) Truly fun stuff. 9.8/10

Tanooki’s Overall Rating: 9.5/10

A great game and a great score, brought down a bit by the sound; but that should by all means not deter people from buying and experiencing this fantastic game.
