The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker |
This is but one of the legends of which people speak…So begins The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It all began at E3. The world of gamers and Zelda fans were shown a gorgeous video of Link and Ganon dueling. But this is not what The Wind Waker would be. During Spaceworld, the audience was shown another video, a video that was practically a living cartoon. Shock spread throughout the gaming society, and many decided to boycott the purchase of the new Zelda game. However, these people who decided not to buy the game were complete morons, thinking that Shigeru Miyamoto would let us down. Of course, now that The Wind Waker has been released, the true Zelda fans have been rewarded. Graphics: The graphics in The Wind Waker are undoubtedly the best graphics possible for the cel-shaded genre, breathing life into every step and move that the Link takes in the game. The way the texture and color in TWW brings emotion to the characters is beyond what any other style of graphics can do. Of course, the graphics are not what make a game, but these cel shaded really deserve to be treated like a work of art. While the cel-shading may not be what everyone likes, it's obviously the best choice for TWW. Seeing the wind is a very important part of the game, and it has been stated before that showing it is nearly impossible without the style of graphics they chose. Sound and Music: Next along comes the sound and music of the game, which is where TWW prospers once again. The music is unbelievable, adding new songs to the Zelda universe, while bringing back many classic songs from the original Zelda games. Sound in the game is another plus. Although Shigeru Miyamoto decided not to use major voice acting, there is some voicing. Throughout TWW, the ways certain songs are used are definitely a major part in making the game better. Storyline: What would a Zelda game be without a great storyline? Although I cannot reveal much of the storyline, as to keep spoilers from being let loose, I can tell you that it is astounding! It is far greater in depth that previous Zelda games and the dialogue moves along smoothly. The storyline of TWW goes much deeper than just saving your sister, and does link up to previous Zelda games, such as Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past. Zelda fans and gamers alike will truly enjoy the experience that TWW will give them. Gameplay: While offering a great storyline, The Wind Waker also offers astounding gameplay. Once you pick the game up, you will get sucked into the world of The Legend of Zelda, and there's no escape. I honestly was unable to put the game down until I had beaten the end boss. For all the fans of OoT out there, Wind Waker takes the gameplay of it and multiplies it by many times. Controls: The controls in the game work flawlessly. If you pre-ordered the game and were privileged enough to play the Master Quest, then the controls won't seem very different. Along with the new control scheme, the fighting system has bean altered the make battling more fun. Pressing certain buttons at certain times will allow you to do combos and special attacks in which the bad guy cannot defend. Controlling the boat, navigating the overworld, and using The Wind Waker is so simple, that it will take no time at all to get used to it. Overall, the controls and fighting scheme were changed for the better. Replayability: As for how much you will enjoy the game and the replay value, it all depends on what you make of it. Along with that, there are over 40 separate islands in the game, each of which offer some sort of side quest or mini game. The ocean that you navigate is filled with hidden treasures just waiting to be found, ranging from rupees, heart pieces, and other treasures. However, the ocean can seem boring at times to travel, but is made somewhat more fun when you gain the ability to warp to certain areas. To make the game last longer, after you have beaten it you will be asked whether or not you want to play the second quest. As for difficulty, the game should take the normal Zelda fan around 20-30 hours to complete, which is only if you decide not to go on any of the side quests. If you do go on the side quests, then the game will last much much longer, making The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker a truly impeccable experience, and by far the greatest Zelda game to date. |
