Mission Statement

To enhance community consciousness of the Pin@y community and to
inspire collective action for personal growth and social transformation.

Dear friend, sister, brother, partner in our
journey.....

On August 2,3, and 4 2001 at San Jose State University, we will give birth to the Pin@y...(Pilipino & Pilipina united as one)Youth Organizers Summit - Unify, Experience, Transform; whose purpose is to enhance the community consciousness of the Pin@y... community and to inspirecollective action for personal growth and social transformation.

Pilipinos since the beginning of time have revolted for their humanity and their freedom. First, Jose Rizal's propaganda movement leading to the revolutionary underground freedom fighters - the Katinpunan's. Fighting and rebelling across the islands until proclaiming "we are true Pilipinos!" Traveling across oceans feeling a connection to a foreign land and settling on a land that they can call there own. Union organizers from North to South of the West establishing the Union Farm Workers Union in the 60's Pilipino consciousness raising. Third world strike students, FANHS (Filipino American National Historical Society) and young people from all over were connecting for the mission of social justice and legitimizing our existence. Thirty years pass and social services such as FYA in Seattle, SIPA in Los Angeles, West Bay in San Francisco, FAA in Oakland, FASS in Vallejo and FYC in San Jose have continued to maintain and create tradition and culture. Youth organizations such as FIND from the East Coast, MAFA from the Midwest, NCPASO from Northern California, SCPASA from Southern California, and NFAYA have conferences that educate the masses about the beauty of our culture. The starting of the 90's have brought upon Pilipino identity consciousness and youth from the US and Canada have continuously organized to create leaders and inspire our next generation of cultural keepers.

Envision a summit of young people that burns the passion of our community
and inspires people around them to mobilize for the well being of all. Just imagine yourself in that moment of connecting with another pin@y... and sharing ideas,
thoughts, frustrations, happiness, and livelihood. Those feelings intertwined with love and respect and that last strong hug before you leave that space and place. Off you go and the memory of that conversation continues in your work and reinspires that fire within us. That moment will encapsulate the entirety of the summit. Love, respect,
connection, rekindling, and learning are our values of the summit. This circular effect of continuing our Pilipino spiritual movement is within us and within you! We are institutionalizing our movement for the masses and legitimizing our existence to the masses. This is greater than us, this needs to happen, the universe is ready for the happenings of our people.

The space will provide each of us a sense of "SOLIDARITY, INTIMACY, INSPIRATION, RE-INSPIRATION, THE "Bayanihan Spirit", A sense of "kapwa" with all. Ultimately to help FORWARD OUR VISIONS.
