Cobras bite Beavers hard Staff Beaver Dam FOUNTAIN LAKE - Things looked good for the Glen Rose Beavers Tuesday night at Fountain Lake, as they opened up a 8-0 lead early in the first quarter. Josh Scott hit two big threes to get six of the eight points. Fountain Lake would go on a 12-0 run and make the score 12-8 in favor of the Cobras. They ended the first quarter with a 15-10 lead. Fountain Lake took control of the game from that point on, winning the second quarter 19-7, the third 15-9, and the fourth 10-6. The Cobras went to an up-tempo game, something that the Beavers don't handle well, and the Beavers couldn't get the tempo to swing back into their favor. Fountain Lake got the 52-39 non-conference win. Fountain Lake's leading scorers were Erick Womack 18, Thong Tran 14, and Thomas Dark and Casey Culpepper who both notched 10 for the Cobras. Josh Scott led the way for the Beavers with 11, Neil Smart followed with 10 of his own. The Fountain Lake Lady Cobras improved their record to 10-2 after whipping the Lady Beavers, who continue to struggle because of a lack of depth. Fountain Lake took the win to the tune of 52-26. Stephanie Priest had 18 for Fountain Lake, while Brynn Murphree had 9 to lead the Lady Beavers. The Lady Beavers fall to 2-12 on the season. The Junior boys couldn't find themselves a win either, after fighting to stay in the game, Fountain Lake proved to be too much. Next up for the Beavers is Poyen on January 4. Poyen's girls team finished 35-3 last year, and won the regional tournament. The boys team is sitting at 17-0 right now, and looks untouchable. |
