04 April 2006 ~ Tuesday Song of the Day: Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh So, I decided to mix things up. Big Cheese helped me out on the background, but then I decided I hated the "art" I created in PhotoShop and scrapped the whole thing. It was too busy and too much trouble to figure out how to, in the words of Tim Gunn, "make it work." I don't know if I like this setup either. I wanted to add a little tagline to my banner, but then it would be too much like two of my favorite blogs. I did, though, create the banner in PhotoShop. Tonight is Game 6 of the playoffs. Portland is ahead of Seattle 3-2 and if we win tonight then we FINALLY advance past the first round. Plus, the game is in our barn and it would be so sweet to win in our house. Although, winning in the Key would be pretty cool. -M |

10 April 2006 ~ Monday Song of the Day: Nightswimming by REM I'm not feeling all that inspired today. Luckily, I'm not the only person I know who is having a bad day. According to a friend of mine, it's because there is a full moon on Thursday. It's one of those days where the saying, "if you don't have anything good to say then don't say it" comes into play. The Hawks are in Round 2 of the playoffs! They beat Seattle in a very dramatic Game 7 last week. They were down 3-0 at the end of the first and within 52 seconds of the start of the second period, two of their players were injured. One, in fact, suffered a broken & dislocated ankle. It became a rallying point for the team who ended up scoring 3 unanswered goals. The game went into overtime, where the Hawks ended up winning. Keep in mind, this was all accomplished in Seattle's barn. So. Thrilling. The team the Hawks are currently playing, Vancouver, is one of the top teams to beat. Portland has already surpassed expectations by winning one game (in a shutout, no less). The series is now tied 1-1 with Portland being at home this Wednesday and Thursday. It would be really nice to force 7 games, but at this point, people are happy they've finally made it out of the 1st round. Our neighbors had a baby. This is pretty surprising because I've seen her a few times in the last 9 months and she never looked pregnant. She's a thin woman, so you'd be able to tell. I suppose it's possible they adopted or are babysitting for an extended amount of time. I also suppose it isn't really any of my business. Who am I kidding? Of course it is! 14 April 2006 ~ Friday Song of the Day: Boom by POD I got on the train this morning and took my place standing by the opposite door. I do this most mornings as I get off the train two stops later to catch a Red Line so I can have "my seat." (it's a single seat) I'm standing there, watching Beaverton pass by, when someone tugs on my bag. I automatically think they're going to ask me where I purchased said bag. (it has marine life on it and it was a gift...people have asked about it before) When I looked over, the lady asked if I would like to sit down. I told her that I didn't need to as I was getting off the train in two stops. She immediately got up, came within about a foot of my face and said, "I think you should sit down." My first thought was "do I look faint? Am I white(er) in the face? Oh my God, AM I GETTING SICK?" (I'm dramatic that way). I repeated that "no, I'm okay." She continues to be VERY adamant about me sitting down and I keep attempting to tell her no. I can't imagine the expression on my face at this point. Probably one of confused horror. The whole time I'm assessing my health situation. At this point another woman came along and took the seat. To my extreme relief. I pointed out that someone was taking the empty seat and the woman, who was still in my face, said (with a wide-eyed expression on her face) "Good. Someone should." Soon after she started talking to me about the theatre they're tearing down. I'm not really sure what she said but I agreed with her. She then proceeded to move on to the guy standing opposite me and have an unsolicited conversation with him. She was still talking to him as I (quickly) exited the train. This is right up there with the time the guy asked if he could kiss my neck... -M |
