10 May 2007 ~ Thursday Song of the Day: Faithless Me by Cravin' Melon This past Tuesday B took Kai to the vet because he wasn't eating and was continually falling down. The vet determined he had a brain tumor so it was in his best interest to let him go. Kai was my brother-in-law, Greg's, dog. Greg died unexpectedly in 2003 and Brad's parents took over care of him. He was a very sweet and stoic dog. It will be strange to go over there and not see him. I had a nice two weeks away from the office. It was extremely hard to come back. We had a relaxing time at the beach and a good visit with my mom and step-dad. I didn't accomplish all I wanted to get done around the house, but I did manage to get some things marked off my to-do list. Our firm is starting to enforce the break rule for those of us paid hourly. In truth, I need to get away from the office during lunch (and 10 minute breaks) but the extra money is/was nice. -M |
23 May 2007 ~ Wednesday Dear Jesse L. Martin, Sing. To Me. -M In other news our dogs are affecting our dreams. Jester = B's ninja / Precious = my poisonous spiders Also, Portland is acting like the Blazers getting the #1 NBA draft pick is the biggest thing since sliced bread. Who the eff cares? It's not hockey. |
30 May 2007 ~ Wednesday Song of the Day: One Thing by Finger Eleven Story 1 Setting: Me sitting at my grandmother's house; I'm a sophomore in college. Grandma: Why don't you just take a few classes and become a secretary. Me: Because I don't want to become a secretary. Story 2 Setting: Me - being a bratty teenager arguing with my mom over something stupid. Me: I don't want to be just a secretary. Moral of the Story (-ies): Karma is a bitch. The Good News: Kevin Constant-whine has quit as the Everett Silvertips head coach. Good riddance to bad rubbish. The Bad News: It's going to be 93 degrees here today. Another Story I was sitting on the bed watching The View or some other piece of crap when I casually looked out the window toward the bird feeders when I noticed a cute little squirrel eating seed below the feeder. Only it wasn't a squirrel. It was a rat. With a mate and a baby. In my backyard. I opened the window...I guess to yell at them like they were teenagers tping my house: "hey you rotten kids! get off my lawn!!" while shaking my fist toward the sky...they immediately ran under the fence back home (the wildlife preserve behind our house). Precious is currently assigned to terminator duty. Final Story B and I went to Best Buy on Monday for various items and I felt the need to visit the Digital SLRs. I like to go visit every now and then. My point-and-shoot is perfectly fine. I'm moderately happy with it. It does the job I need it to do. I just miss the instant picture taking (aka no shutter lag) and being able to manually focus. If I do buy a Digital SLR (which will not be in the near future), I will do a lot of research beforehand. The biggest decision: Nikon vs. Canon. I know I don't want anything too fancy. I've no intention of becoming a professional. I just don't know which camera I want. They (Best Buy) had a camera set up to take pictures - it was probably one of the more expensive ones - and the manual focus and NO SHUTTER LAG - brought me so much joy that it was rather surprising. Another thing that keeps me from saving my pennies to buy one is that I don't go out and take photos as it is. I really miss doing that. Charleston was the best city for that what with the historic buildings, the ocean and various other sights. We have plenty of nature around here, though. Such is life. -M PS The Vancouver Giants beat the Medicine Hat Tigers (both WHL teams - the same league as Portland) to win the 2007 Memorial Cup. Vancouver was the host team. |
