Youngeun (Young) J. Choi, Concert Pianist

Born in Seoul, Korea in 1964. She began playing the piano at the age of six. She graduated from the Music School of Yensei University in Seoul, Korea and continued to study at the Vienna Music Conservatory in Vienna, Austria with Prof. Gereon Kleiner in 1990. She took a 'Diploma of Music and Instrumental Soloist in Piano' at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin (Hochschule fur Musik Berlin), Germany with Prof. Gabriele Kupfernagel in 1994. She had finished the 'Staat Examen in Piano Performance and Pedagogy' course at the Music School of the Berlin University of the Arts (Universitat der Kuste (UdK) Berlin), Germany with Prof. Linde Grossann and Prof. Sorin Enachescu 1994 through 1999.

Youngeun was advised that her name had been added to the roaster of musicians who were eligible to play on the
Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series sponsored by the International Music Foundation in Chicago. On October of 2002, this concert was live-broadcasted by the WFMT (Chicago classical FM radio station) 98.7 and broadcasted by the Channel 25 TV in Chicago. While attending at the Berlin University of the Arts in Berlin, Germany, She won the 'IBLA Grand Prize' at the International Piano Competition in Ragusa, Italy in 1996. She had three solo piano recitals at the Steinway House in Berlin, Germany in 1994 and 1995 and at the Munhwa Newspapers Hall in Seoul, Korea in 1995. She took a Diploma for the 8th International Competition for Piano & Orchestra at CittaDi Cantu Italy in 1998 and the master class in Berlin with Prof. Gyorgy Sebok in 1996. She also took the international master class for piano in Basel, Switzerland by Prof. Larissa Dedova and Prof. Mikhail Volchok in 1997, and the master course for pianist with Diploma Russische Schule in Freiburg, Germany under the direction of Prof. Vitaly Margulis in 1996. She gave a piano performance on the concert at the Music School Pankow Friedrich-List-Gymnasium-Aula in Berlin, Germany in 1995. She had participated in the international summer academy Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria by Prof. Dieter Zechlin and Prof. Tatiana Nikolaeva in 1993, and the Vienna master class in Vienna, Austria by Prof. Alexander Jenner in 1990, and Prof. Alexander Sats in 1988. She was awarded at the National Piano Competitions (Hankook Newspapers, Samik Piano and Korean Classical Music Association) in Seoul, Korea in 1976, 1979 and 1982.
