KITARO Music Guide
Young Persons' Guide to KITARO Music #15
MESSAGE FROM THE COSMOS
LEGEND OF THE ROAD
all songs written and arranged by KITARO
First album which KITARO-san recorded after signing to GEFFEN RECORDS for worldwide release. Musically this album has the same direction as last few albums like SILVER CLOUD and TENJIKU. This means that each song have simple arrangement, and melodies, phrases, and the shape of songs have pop feeling. But comparing with the albums after the next THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT album, the important element of KITARO Music (like melodies, phrases, "KITARO-san's typical flow represented through an album") is weaker on this album. As same as on the other albums of this period, most of all the melody sounds like it was pre-written, while improvisation part is few. Another character of this album is...there are many songs which have gentle and pastoral feeling, while there are few thrilling tensions which can be heard so often in the important part of KITARO-san's masterpiece albums. But this character is not the mainstream in KITARO-san's whole discography. So it canNOT be said that this is good album for the very first KITARO album for those who is new to KITARO Music.
This album's strongest song "WINGS" seems to be the richest harvest of this album. In fact, this kind of tune cannot be heard on last two or three studio recording albums. Without doubt, this song's thrilling tensions, wide range of dynamism, and driving forces are the bridge to the next album THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT.
KITARO-san's recording style, basically by himself alone in the studio, ended (momentary) with this album. From the next album THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT, KITARO-san began to record his albums normally with guest musicians, and this recording style lasted for years.
