Trip to America

by Young-su Kang

While we, the 9th& 10th graders travelled through America, a number of exotic and interesting events had happened. Of those unforgettable events, the most moving experience was seeing how much Americans are inspired to study and learn, even under harsh conditions, for I had no chance to go through that kind of circumstance.

The first time I felt Americans' high demands for knowledge was happened at universities. At every famous university, I saw many handicapped students who were suffering from diverse diseases. It's certian that most of them had less opportunites than other students. However, there were several studetns who won a competition with ordinary students. It was surpring and embarassing for me, because of the ignorance occurred by having no experience in Korea.

Moreover, many old people and grown-ups were keeping books at hand. This fact was very astonishing to me. Often times, Koreans think people after the graduation from universities don't have to study any longer. For me who is used to the concepts of Koreans, it felt really opposite. I could feel confidently I was at the other side of the world.

Through this field trip, I was inspired and regretful by experiences that I am not accustomed to. This field trip couldn't get better if it had not been for the fine for being late. Anyway, it would be an unforgettable trip for a lifetime.
