Seto is the older brother of Mokuba Kaiba. His mom died giving birth to Mokuba and his dad died two years later in a accident. So, the siblings has to be sent to an orphanage.
A lot of people wanted to adopt Seto, because of he was smart. But, Seto refused to be adopted if tit wasnt along with his younger brother. Seto had promised to him to take care of him always.
One day, a wealthy CEO(or boss) visited the orphanage . His name was Gozaburo Kaiba, owner of Kaiba Corporation.Young Seto challenged him to a game of chess--and won. Gozaburo adopted him and Mokuba as the reward. Seto was trained harshly by Gozaburo to become the sucessor of his company. That influenced Seto to be a cold-hearted and ruthless person.
Eventually, Seto avenged his guardian. He took over Kaiba Corp. and in the manga, he pushed Gozaburo out of a executive room window. In the anime, Gozaburo died of a heart attack after he threatened to.
After this time, Seto's greed, selfishness, and desire was overwhelming. He loves Duel Monsters and was an expert at the game. His favorite card was the BEWD. He wanted Yugi's granpa, or Sugoruko's, Blue Eyes White Dragon, but he refused to sell it to Seto. This outraged Seto. He forced a duel aginst Sugoruko and beat him; ripping his Blue Eyes in half.
Yugi arrived in time to rescue his granpa, and also challenged Seto to a duel. The match was furious, consisting of Seto's three BEWDs(Blue Eyes White Dragon). Until, Yugi got all five parts of Exodia, and blasted away the three BEWDs, and defeating Seto. Yami, the ancient spirit from Yugi's Millenium Puzzle, opened Seto's heart and mind, destroying the evil in it. That was the main cause of Seto's hate for Yugi because he can't stand the fact that he had been beaten by him. Ever since that duel, Seto kept planning on ways to beat Yugi.
Seto disappeared to rebuild his mind and to figure out why he had did all his wrongdoings in his past.
Meanwhile, Maximillion Pegasus was trying to take over Kaiba Corp. He tried to seize control by trying to kill Seto and kidnapping Mokuba.
Seto went to duelist kingdom to rescue his brother and get revenge from Pegasus. He challenged Pegasus. He lost and his soul was Pegasus'. Annnnnd...........Seto joins forces with Yugi in series 2.
