6 March 03: Seeing the sky darken & the fields turn brown & the lake lead-grey as some enormous scrap of sheet metal & wind grabs the world around the equator I am most thankful then for knowing about the little gold hairs on your belly - Al Purdy |
And during hibernation, there was... |
25 March 03: Goodbye mysterious sounds, Hello CD player. Goodbye frozen toes, Hello heat when and where I want it. Goodbye Beuhlah, Hello Missy! I don't want to sound flippant about Beuhlah. She got me through the driving phobia and showed me a good time road tripping last summer. Good luck girl. I'll tell them you like things clean. |
14 March 03: Question: Who can taste spring before a kid from the prairies? Answer: No one. |
15 March 03: It's coming. Slow and heavy, deep beneath our feet, the earth is beginning to breath again. Spring! It sounds different. The dry, hollow crunch and squeak under my boots is gone. The snow is thick and clumsy, wet and perfect for inukshuks. When I breathe in, it's not empty space that invades my lungs and makes me gasp. Moisture- dare I say it- life! tickles my nose and fills me to the brim. O fresh air! O black clay! O rebirth! |
20 March 03: That, my friends, was the first full winter I've had in four years. Wow. Things were looking quite grim for awhile there. My God, they should give out Spring Appreciation awards. I've been giddy for days and today I kissed a tree. I give my thanks and gratitude to Everyone and Everything Who Could Assume to Take Thanks for The Coming of Spring. |
16 March 03: An impenetrable fog has enveloped us this weekend as the thaw begins. Unknown friends gather on far-away planets with telescope eyes to watch our pyschadelic swirled marble home defrost. I wish I had their view. |
6 April 03: If I chose to be glass half-empty, I'd say that Spring Break sucked because I didn't do anything. But because I'm a ray of golden sun, I can say that I am happy and content, ready to face the mayhem of this final stretch! (Despite our paranoia, the beer was cold, the studio cozy, and the conversation easy. I remember your scruff against my cheek...) |
20 April 03: Your laugh is gentler than I thought. Where do you go when you kiss me so softly? And how did you manage to keep my hand in yours the entire night, cuddling and nestling in on that teeny mattress? |
21 April 03: For some reason, I had decided that by tomorrow I would be able to breathe again at school. Cha! What was I thinking? (Oh Gary Ghaney, where are you?) |
29 April 03: I took a giant leap in my webbing abilities and scanned a whole lotta pics... but can't get them uploaded. Waa. Maybe I'll describe them instead. Okay, there's this one, where there's this mountain, and there's lots of trees, and you can see the third mightiest river in Japan, too. If you look closely. |
27 April 03: Mathematically speaking, you're at 50%. That sort of rate doesn't get the goods, if youknowwhatImean. Best of luck to you, sir. |
26 April 03: Gosh, it's great to have you back in town! Scheming and dreaming, loud and proud. |
Click your heels three times and you'll be home. |
