        “The rain,”
I watched the downpour trickle down the corpse’s
bloody face, as it hung upside-down, swinging in the
wind.  Kohta and I had been called in for reasons I
don’t know, other than the fact that the force was
undermanned, but the surprise is that this is yet
another body for our ongoing case.
        “...Makes this much worse,”
+++++
Kohta tossed a manila folder, dripping wet, onto my
desk.  He was still cloaked in the leather poncho,
looking like a big grim reaper wearing a cop’s hat.
“Dead man’s part of the foster parent system,”
Kohta mumbled, slowly sliding his soaked hat off his
head.
“Hh.” I growled. “One of Kyo’s?”
Kohta shrugged his shoulders, as drips of rain
dropped from his hair.  I slammed my fist and rubbed
my eyes.
“He’s always one step ahead of us!” I said. “One
step ahead of me...”
Kohta looked on with the straightest face one could
possibly have.  His lips were a perfect straight line,
the black bags of fatigue pulling at his eyes, and of
course the eyes themselves.  My god, his eyes...

As I sat by one of the windows drinking my coffee and
watching the rain, I saw the commissioner, in his
large coat and nice suit, approached me from his
office.
“Detective,” he started. “How’s the child
mutilation case?”
        Oh shit.
“It’s... it’s going, sir,” I lied. “We... we just
need a little help.”
The commissioner looked at me through his sunglasses
and swept back his hair.
“Help?” he asked, and turned around. “Hey,
Lieutenant!”
Jiro looked up from his desk and walked over.
        “Yessir?”
The commissioner looked at me square in the face,
right through my eyes.  I stared back, knowing what’s
coming.
“Get on the child mutilation case, Jiro,”
I looked down, then at Jiro, and I nodded to him.
“But, sir, I’ve got cases,” Jiro replied.
“Get to it” the commissioner said, walking back and
slamming his office shut.
Jiro looked at me, then he walked away, motioning for
Sergeant Hakuei to follow.

“We’re off the child mutilation case,”
Kohta looked at me and raised an eyebrow.
“Commish says we’re not getting the job done,” I
slipped on my trench coat and walked alongside my
partner.  “First case I’ve ever been taken off,”
        Kohta shrugged his shoulders.
“So does that mean we only have the foster parent
cases?” he asked.
        I nodded.
        “Good,”
