~The Dead Siblings~
(Yk2's Book Reviews)
As people should know by now, I LOVE to read. These are merely book reviews and most of the stuff i put up here will probably be recommended books.I'm by no means trying to degrade anyone and these are my sole opinions alone. I do have a strange taste in books and I like to read books from authors that no one's ever heard of ^^; Think of it as a promotion. I hope the review section will be a good guide for many book lovers out there. I also hope some fanfic writers will check this section for good book inspirations.
The Reviews are organized in alphabetical order by the author's last name. Ratings are by letter grades. Ones that I highly recommend are highlighted in white. Enjoy =)!
Author | Title | Genre | Summary/Comment: | Rating |
Austen, Jane | Pride and Prejudice | Classic | Wow. This is one hell of a classic. I love Pride and Prejudice. I think everyone's read this, right? The book does go into a lot of English society's etiquette during the olden days. Very well written & I just think it's one of the best classics around. | B+ |
Brown, Sandra | Adam's Fall | Romance | It's about a guy who gets into an accident and becomes paralyzed into a wheelchair. The girl who comes in is a physical therapist and romance blossoms. This is good b'c it's different from the typical romance novel. Simple, yet interresting plot, & different characters. | B |
Christi, Agatha | And Then There Were None | Mystery | I assume almost everyone's read this, but I love it. 10 people get stranded on an island mansion and one by one, people are getting killed by an unknown killer. Wonderful whodunit that really makes you think logically about clues! Gotta love it. | B+ |
Conway, DJ | Dream Warrior | Fantasy | A girl named Corri Farblood is a thief that has a special ability to 'Dream Fly'. She escapes her guild with a sorcerer Imandoff into adventure. I really really like this book. The plot seems simple, but a lot of things happen to Corri. In a way, reading this makes you real attatched to the characters b'c you feel them mature and change throughout the trilogy. Wonderful book, but hard to find (-_-) | A- |
Sooth Slayer | Fantasy | 2nd book to the Dream Warrior trilogy. Corri is now trying to prevent a war and a prophecized "Sooth Slayer" who will bring about her and the world's downfall. Lots of characters come in and a surprise in store for Takra & Imandoff in the middle of the book. Quite good. I like it a lot b'c there's a lot of development b/w Takra and Imandoff, my favorite characters =) | A-
Warrior of Shadows | Fantasy | 3rd book of the Dream Warrior trilogy. I haven't read it yet ^^; | *
Deveraux, Jude | Velvet Promise | Romance | 1st book of the Velvet Series. Set in the Medieval times, highland knight Gavin Montgomery is forced to marry small, but witty Judith. Romance blossoms, etc. etc. This is my favorite Velvet book, and I think it has VERY sweet romance that's not corny or sappy. | A |
Highland Velvet | Romance | 2nd book of Velvet series. This time, Gavin's brother Stephen is betrothed to a sassy Scottish laird. I think this contains more fighting/war than the other one (strange for a romance novel). It's pretty good, except I found the girl a tad bit of a nuisance. | B
Velvet Song | Romance | 3rd Velvet book. Of course, it's about the other brother Raine. Raine is the political one, so he is exiled by the king and he meets up with some girl, etc. etc. Raine is my favorite Montgomery brother, but his book didn't end up that good compared to the other Velvet ones (sighs in disappointment). | C+
Velvet Angel | Romance | 4th Velvet book. About Miles, the youngest Montgomery and also the biggest playboy. He becomes quite taken with Elizabeth Chatworth, part of the rival family that has given havoc to their family in the past books. I was sad that this it the last Velvet book, but I didn't exactly enjoy the book as well. | C
Mountain Laurel | Romance | Er... a Montgomery descendant in the American west. I normally don't like Western books, but this one's pretty good. He's a Colonel that is appointed to be an opera singer's body guard. Stuff happens, as usual, but not too bad. Sweet romance. | B
The Raider | Romance | ^^; Another Montgomery. This time, in Colonial America. The Raider is like a masked superhero that protests against the english by 'raiding'; but in the day, he disguises himself as a plump, rich fop. Of course, a girl gets involved, but she is overcome by the Superman Complex : likes the superhero; can't stand the non-superhero, but same guy. Comprende? Corny plot, but there are instances that make the book a sweet romance =) | B-
Garwood, Julie | Ransom | Romance | This is actually a sequel to The Secret. This one is about 2 of the knights, Brodick and Ramsey, from the previous book. it's pretty much the same plot. Medieval setting, knight has to escort girl somewhere, falls in love, etc. BUT I love it because Brodick is a brooding knight that amuses me. | A- |
Castles | Romance | About some orphaned girl Alesandra that has a plot to marry in 3 weeks to keep her inheritance away from her evil relative. She gains shelter with some rich guy and of course, romance blossoms. Pretty good book. Very amusing, at least to me, it was ^^; | B+
Gregory, Jill | Forever After | Romance | Set in the Regency Period. Camilla was a lady orphaned with all her posessions and wealth disappeared. She ends up working in a tavern with other poor, orphaned children. She witnesses a murder and runs into Philip (who of course, is some rich guy). Then, she becomes Philip's younger sister's caretaker and Philip's unwilling accomplice in his plot to win another person's heart. I highly recommend this book. It's very very good. The fact that she wasn't pampered or rich and experiences the slums during the Regency period (which most romance novels seem to neglect) makes the novel truly original. Not only that, but the characters are level-headed and witty. No stupid whiny girls or dumb-assed guys. Read this! | A+ |
Hooper, Kay | Stealing Shadows | Suspense | A serial killer story with a touch of ESP. Very creepy and very good. Highly recommended for those who like CSI or XFiles! | A |
Hiding in the Shadows | Suspense | 2nd book to the Shadows trilogy. Same thing. Serial killer with ESP people. Not as creepy as the 1st book, but some characters from the other book make a comeback. | B-
Out of the Shadows | Suspense | 3rd Shadows book. I love this book b'c it personally involves Noah Bishop, the cool & myserious investigator from the 2 previous books. Another serial killer + ESP plot, but a lot better than the 2nd book. | A-
