FILM REVIEW
I watched the movie "All About My Mother", by Almodovar couple days ago. This movie was a winner on the Golden Globe as the best foreign film.
The protagonist of this film is Manuela. She is a middle-age woman who works as a nurse in the organ's donation center. She grows a son, who is a writer. Family seems to be happy until one day, when Manuela's son was killed in the car accident. Later, she found his diary where he wrote his wish—to know and find his father. So, Manuela decided to go to Barcelona, city that she left 18 years ago, pregnant and abandoned. In Barcelona she met different people. One of them is young pregnant girl, whose mother doesn't like her, and father is mentally sick. Manuela took her home, and was like her caregiver all this time, when she was pregnant and felt terrible. Also, she met a famous actress, with "unusual" sexual orientation. Manuela helped her to understand her problems and to solve problems, especially with her girl friend. The person who amazed me the most was a transvestite prostitute. She (or he?) is such a funny personage in this movie. Her behavior shows such a variety from nice and quit female to mad macho. At the end of movie when the little baby-boy was born Manuela decided to take him with her back home. This little boy became her second son, and by the end of movie she seemed to be happy again.
As for me this movie didn't show a lot of specific "ethnic"context, or Latino ideas. However, it was interesting to watch because of protagonists, antagonists, and the whole idea. I really liked the climax of this movie, when Manuela comes back with a baby, like 18 years ago.
This shows that life is continue, and "show must go".
