Drums and ME

Hi all!!

This is my drumming page!!! YEY YEY CAPITAL D @:)

Here are some pictures of my previous and current drumkits.

The story behind the pics!!

I bought my first kit in 1992 (I think) for $500 from a local music store. It was a Stage brand 5 piece piece of crock. But at the time I loved it and I didn't know any better. Before I bought that kit I had one solitary Zildjian 10" K Splash, with a crack around the bell which I bought for $10 and a hi hat stand and a pair of old filthy hi-hats. The hi-hats were so bad, that if I played them really hard, the top cymbal would invert!! I started lessons not too long after I bought the kit - I needed them!!! Gradually, I got better with lessons and mucking around on the kit. I actually found a band to play with, after playing little tunes here and there with friends. My band was called Token Gesture, we mainly busked (street performing
for those out there who don't know :) and also did a few charity gigs. Eventually, I raised up enough money to buy new cymbals. I first bought a set of Sabian rock hi-hats, a rock crash and also a Zildjian flat ride. Later on, I saved
even more money to afford a Tama Rockstar (rockstar - that's me :). This kit cost me $1200 I think and shat all over my last kit!! It was pretty cool, all things considered. I still played for the same band until it eventually disbanded at
some stage - I can't remember when!!

Then I worked with a few different teachers and progressively got better and better and then joined another band called Toy Molto. Toy Molto has been my most succesful band so far. We played quite a few gigs, with success here and there and
we managed to get some really good support gigs. At the later stage with Toy Molto I was studying with a guy by the name of Torsten Trenka (he was my greatest drum teacher and really made a difference to my playing) and I started to go off in a
different direction musically. So I left the band after helping them win two free days of studio time with Sony Studios. So, then I went full-time studying with Torsten. Oh! by the way, whilst I was in TM I bought myself a Sonor Force 2000 kit.
My kit got fairly large at that stage as I was getting paid more etc.

Then I went into full-time study with my teacher, learning and re-learning a lot of rudiments, styles etc. It was really great and has helped me a lot as I can now teach myself what I need to learn. During that time I bought my current kit!!!! WAHHOOOO
THIS KIT KICKS BUTT!!!!

UPDATE!!!

Since coming to Sydney in June 98 I have expanded my percussion doodads!  I now have a Yamaha DTX 6 piece electronic kit with some really wicked sounds and great sequences.  I also have a Yamaha SY85 synthesizer and an old pc all connected up to my kit to do some midi tunes.  I will try and get these on to this site in the near future!  I have a doumbeq (an arabic funky drum) and an UDU drum. UDU UDU UDU!!!! this thing kicks ass, it's an african clay drum that makes these really cool burping kinda sounds and lots of other cool tones.

I haven't played my acoustic kit for a long time now unfortunately, so maybe in the near future I will be able to have my acoustic kit and electro kit all stuck together to form my mega kit! I'll make sure to get a photo of it if it does happen.

Stay tuned for some cool photos....

Here is what my electro kit looks like:

And this is what my udu looks like:

 UDU UDU UDU!!!

This is sorta similar to my doumbeq, but mine is black and looks cooler!! And it also comes with a nifty carrying strap too! :)
