SEXING

Sexual differences can normally be distinguished at ease for juveniles who are 6-7weeks old. Males are usually larger. Its 1st three spinous dorsal fin rays are also markedly elongated and they have longer pelvic, anal and caudal fins, too. Unlike the common ram, most females, if not all, do not exhibit reddish/pinkish bellies when they are very ripe. Similarly with the common ram, within or around the black spot is usually tainted with blue or golden speckles and occasionally, on each side of the spot, there is a vertical gold band.
