Yvette Johnson - Radio Professional and Promising Singer from Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa

Well, if you happen not to live in Central South Africa, it's possible you don't know her yet. But if you do live somewhere between Arlington and Upington, she is definitely your "nine o' clock chill zone radio chick" on OFM, the "Number 1 in Central South Africa".

However, you can listen to her station on the Internet, too. Try http://www.ofm.co.za/ofm.asx . Yvette Johnson and Victor Kay are on the air every night from Mondays to Fridays between 9 'o clock and midnight South African time. That's 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. London time, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Berlin time, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. New York time and 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sydney time.

And in case you don't understand everything she says, that's probably because she presents the programmes bilingually. If she isn't talking to you in English, it's very likely to be Afrikaans.

The other OFM programmes aren't bad either.

But that’s not all. Yvette is also a singer, and she has released her first single: Crazy.

Crazy is currently playlisted and climbing local charts on various radio stations, such as OFM, Algoa FM, Highveld Stereo, Kovsie FM and counting!

25 year old Yvette Johnson started writing and performing long before the age of 10. Born in Bloem, the family moved to Ladybrand and then to Port Shepstone. After 7 years, their subsequent return to Bloem proved to be fruitful. The underestimated town became the launching pad for her hundreds of solo performances as a singer all over the country. Her own material soon replaced cover versions when her younger brother, Bobby, grew into a super-talented producer and musician in his own right. They started recording and writing tracks together on his then Soundblaster, much like UK sensations Daniel and Natasha Bedingfield.

Her eventual first commercial release as a singer was as a featured artist on CHOYZ’s hardcore kwaito album “See us coming” on the title track (Universal Music 2002), produced in total by bro’ Bob.

Having also written and recorded with a legend like Gabi Le Roux on this first single, "Crazy", there’s no doubt that its a radio hit waiting to hit the airwaves. Wherever this song is performed, its an absolute favorite, this tune just hangs in your head!

The track has clear hit-single potential, with a strong chorus hook and a fusion of Pop-house with seamless African guitar riffs…Truly South African cross-over stuff!

Currently working on the rest of the full debut album, Yve, as she is called by friends, is working mainly with Bobby Johnson (Brenda Fassie, H2O, Twasa) and Gabi Le Roux (Mandoza, Danny K, Chiskop, Lebo, Brenda, etc…), who is currently re-doing a track she wrote and recorded with rugby player Kennedy Tsimba.

Yve is collaborating with various different types of artists to enhance her diverse nature as a singer and performer. She’s a natural high on stage, having performed alongside an array of big names such as Kabelo, Andre Swiegers, TK, KB, Dozi, Thembi, PJ Powers and more.

"I almost have to force myself into recording studios to record all day....but I can spend tireless hours on stage. The bigger the crowd, the better!"

Expect a smashingly diverse album that may well be the next big cross-over thing in this country.
