Our Achievements

Pakistan has walked a long distance in its short life of 52 years. Pakistanis have pioneered in every field, whether it is medicine, literature, computers, science or astronomy.

The Ghauri Missile.

Pakistan tested its most powerful missile, the Ghauri, in April 1998. This missile has the capability to deliver nuclear warheads upto a distance of 2000 km away.

Nuclear test at Chagai, Balochistan.

On May 28th, 1998, Pakistan became the seventh nuclear power in the world, and the only Muslim state to harness nuclear power. In one day, Pakistan successfully tested three devices, and two more the next day.

Pakistan has over 30 Internet Service Providers operating, out of which only one is government-owned. This development has provided a lot of support to the software development sector of the Pakistani economy, which has been experiencing spectacular growth in recent years. This has also given a boost to the number of computer-literate users and has opened new horizons for businesses, making communication and finding a market more easy.

Trade
Pakistan is recognized in the world market as a producer of quality cotton, leather, wheat, rice, sugar, different fruits, and sports goods.

In the recent football World Cup France 98, Pakistan supplied a large number of the footballs that were used in the tournament. This was a recognition of producing the finest-quality footballs in the world.

Pakistan also produces clothes and jeanswear for a large number of multi-nationals and brand-names, such as Levi's, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and Reebok. A large number of smaller companies in the USA and Europe also import Pakistani cotton for their products. Wool is also exported from Pakistan to a large number of European countries and to the USA.

Pakistan is a regular exporter of wheat and sugar to its Asian neighbours. It is also a leading world producer of mangos, apples, oranges, pears, apricots and plums. Pakistani products are recognised worldwide for their quality and production standards.

The current government has also laid a great deal of emphasis on the development of economic infrastructure, for which the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M-2) was constructed. A Karachi-Lahore Motorway and Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway is also under contsruction. This is a necessity to link all the provinces together and smoothen the flow of goods and workers.

The Port Qasim Project has also been given greater emphasis to develop another world-class port to assist in production and export of goods. Pakistan's strategic location can enable Port Qasim to provide valuable services in world and sea trade.

Sports
Pakistan has had a legacy of leading in world sports.

In 1992, Pakistan won the Cricket World Cup and was crowned the champion of the game. Earlier this year, Pakistan lost to Australia in the Cricket World Cup 1999 final, but is still rated the second-best cricket-playing team in the world.

In hockey, Pakistan has always had a leading edge over other countries. Though it does not currently hold the world-championship title, it is in the Top 3 teams and has always been feared for its attacking and organized play.

In squash, Pakistan has produced legendary players such as Jehangir Khan and Jansher Khan. These players hold world records for winning the most World Opens and British Opens, and have held their titles for periods as long as 5 consecutive years.
