Amsterdam
I think I could live in Amsterdam. The Central City is compact enough that you can walk almost anywhere. The city is packed with music clubs, museums, canals and cafes. Yes, there are smoking cafes and Red Light Districts if you like that sort of thing. I like it there.
Called De Waang, this is the old weight house where merchants would get their produce weighed. It is now a cafe.
Most of Amsterdam is built on landfill and soft silty soil. Buildings are built on pilings that reach down to bedrock. Over the years (centuries) some of the pilings may start to decay and the building start to slant. This is just a private home in a residential area of central Amsterdam.
Houseboats everywhere.
