Trakai |
Gediminas may have made Trakai his capital in the 1320's. Kestutis made it his base in the 14th Century. The castles were built to defend against the Tutonic Knights. I only have photos of the restored Island Castle. The peninsula castle is a ruin and wasn't nearly as photogenic in the early morning fog. |

The footbridge leads you to Karaimu gatve, the entrance to the Castle. The Castle is home to the Trakai Historical Museum. |
