News
4.29.02
After eight semesters on the "air" (or internet and cable, as the case was), tonight Rock Power had to say goodbye.  Becky and I looked back on some of the music that was a big part of our show--favorite albums that came out during Rock Power's tenure, songs that we could not get enough of, and songs that were frequently requested by our many fans (by songs we mean "Whoever You Are" by Geggy Tah, and by fans we mean Tom who used to listen to us every Thursday freshman year.)

We played some clips from past shows, marveled at how lame we sound, and hit a lot of the wrong buttons.  It was a fond farewell...

Much love to those who were with us over the years: especially original Rock Power co-host Penny Hucker, Rock Power fill-in Paul Hadley, loyal listeners to the AM show like Tom & Tim, loyal listeners to the PM show like Mom and Dad Schroeter and plenty of fellow WMUR DJs, Cody for always putting on the theme song for me when I'm late, Ryan Miller for the Double Latte Project and being a fine General Manager, to all the WMUR staff (except Jason Santo), to Vermont for daring to come on our show, to all the music industry friends who helped me keep the station well-stocked with great new music (and to keep me liquored up on occasion), and especially to all the bands who made the music we love to share.

Thank you so much.  Signing off...

4.22.02
Finally got Becky and me in the booth at the same time tonight--first time in weeks!  It was a killer show.  Tribute to the fine works of The Promise Ring to hype the new album Wood/Water out tomorrow on Anti-.

Shoutouts to the Beta Band for playing a fabulous show last Friday night here in Milwaukee, and for inviting me backstage for birthday cake!  What nice lads.  Cheers!

4.10.02
Only three episodes of Rock Power left!!!  Heavens.  What next?

Rock Power Host Future-O-Meter Update:
Becky has been accepted to a program to teach English in Japan.
Liz is thinking of ways to rearrange the furniture in her old bedroom at Mom and Dad's house in order to fit her entertainment system in there.

Rant: I hate crowd surfers.  Stage diving is fine, because the diver is there in front of you, and you can see him or her coming.  But those friggin' crowd surfers launch themselves from somewhere in the middle of the room, taking out unsuspecting concert goers in their wake.  Then there is the mosh pit.  I mean I'm all for rockin' out and jumping and dancing around and throwing your fists in the air and pressing close to the stage, but I do not understand creating a wide space in the middle of the room, where you do not watch the band, but rather barely watch each other while you shove and hurl each other around.

My point?  A big "f@#k you" to the jerks at last night's Face to Face show for hurling me unwilling into the mosh pit, and knocking me on my ass and burying me with your filthy, sweaty, Midtown t-shirt clad bodies.  OUCH!

On a brighter note, the guys in Face to Face are swell fellas, and I got to chat with them for a bit after the show.  Take that you sweaty punk jocks.

4.1.02
Michigan Fest last weekend rocked like nothin' else.  At least once you got past the aesthetic of seeing bands in what was basically a sort of VFW hall.  Much love to old friends and new that came out from Chicago, Wisconsin, NY, and more.  The Metro Inn where we crashed may be dingy, but it has the longest continuous hallway in Michigan.  Stunning.  Highlights?  Rye Coalition, Radio 4, !!!, Crooked Fingers, and tailgating around Sweep the Leg Johnny's truck.

Anywho, in honor of the fabulous Michigan Fest 2002, I played a block of the bands that appeared at the fest on tonight's show.  ROCK!

Be sure to take a look at this week's Mic Check in CMJ (go to CMJ.com if you don't have a hard copy).  Rebecca from WSUW and I are the featured music directors (a revolutionary tag-team).  Between that and my t-shirt being sported by the cutest Promise Ringer in their press photos, I feel like a real star.

3.18.02
On my Spring Break visit to California, I picked up some old vinyl at the huge, amazing Amoeba Records in San Francisco.  Coincidentally, my roommates Nora and Karen (all independently from each other) brought up some of their parents' old vinyl.  It called for a celebration!  Karen joined me on the show, filling in for Becky, and we spun some of our vinyl favorites along with plenty of good new rock.

3.6.02
We have had more rock stars in the WMUR studio this week than I have seen here in the past four years!  Saturday, Minneapolis synth-pop band Manplanet came by before their show at the Globe (w/ the Benjamins).  The singer had a black eye and the drummer a bandaged wrist...you do the math.  Today Ben from the Benjamins stopped by to co-host Allison's 5-7pm radio show.  Best of all, Monday the 4th, Davey VonBohlen and Chris Rosenau of the band Vermont came by Rock Power.  I am so happy I finally roped some of Milwaukee's best rockers into the WMUR studio.  It was about time!  Especially since I have been a Promise Ring fan (Davey's "main" band) since high school.  We had a great time talking about the band, their other bands, their "introspective lyrics" (see Battle of Larry Bird) and their rivalries with other bandana-wearing Promise Ring side-projects in town.  We played some music we all liked and generally goofed around for nearly two hours.

Davey: "It's not like I'm singing about boogers."
