A Commitment to Faith
and Reason
A committment to both faith and reason is a reliance on both human intelligence and faith in God to understand fully what God intends. Take the scriptures for example, we need to have faith that they are truly God's words. We also need our intelligence to interpret them correctly. For Catholics, there is no contradiction between what we can known by intelligence and what can be known through faith. Our faith helps us understand what our reason tells us, and our reason helps us to understand our faith more clearly.

Having a strong faith in God is important, but we must not forget our own human reason.
