Watch and Be Sober
There are 2 Greek words that we are going to look at specifically gregoreo it means to keep awake, of spiritual alertness which is translated Watch and Vigilant and Nepho-abstain from wine keep sober which is translated sober. In Matthew 24:42 the last instruction that Christ gave us in that chapter was to Watch. And in the 48th verse he states But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken. Therefore I think it is important that we should take a closer look at this Watch and Be Sober. Without any further ado lets go to 1 Thessalonians.
1 Thessalonians 5:1 ĥ But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
Times in the Greek is Chronos-time, duration as unlimited unless defined. Season is Kairos-a certain limited and definite portion of chronos. By the signs given you should know the season.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
Know in the Greek is eido it means to have seen or perceived; whether absolutely as in Divine or in the case of human knowledge to know from observation. Perfectly is the Greek word is akribos which means accuracy which is the outcome of carefulness, it is used only 5times which is grace. Many who look for the day of the Lord will fall off to the First Messiah Satan himself thinking he is Christ and there fore when Christ does return at the 7th trump the won’t even expect it. Paul is saying you know the signs of the return of Christ, you know that Satan comes at the 6th trump claiming to be God/Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
Peace in the Greek is eirene which it comes from the prim verb eiro which means to join , by implication prosperity. Safety in the Greek is asphaleia which means security also translated certainty it is used 3times (Divine Completeness-Perfection).Sudden in the Greek is aiphnidios which means unexpected. They will think Christ has returned and will be saying there is now peace and safety because they are worshiping The False Messiah and then when the 7th trump comes the unexpected destruction. That is the birth of the new age the Lord’s Day which is a thousand years.
1 Thessalonians 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
Darkness in the Greek is skotos which means shadiness obscurity. Christ is the light of the World John 9:5. Light-Truth- dispels all darkness-lies. Paul stating you have been told Satan comes first you should not be taken off guard.
1 Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
John 8:47 states he that is of God heareth God’s Words and we know a good tree bringeth forth good fruit. Satan is of the night symbolically speaking.
1 Thessalonians 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
Many today are whewed to sleep by those that interpret the scriptures for them ,by the twisting of scripture to fit men’s traditions that make the whole body-congregation full of darkness. We are taught by the Spirit of Truth- Holy Spirit. What are our instructions To Watch and be Sober. Watch in the Greek is gregoreo it means to keep awake, of spiritual alertness. It is used 24 times ( The Priesthood) The English word Watch is used throughout the scripture 66 times ( Idol Worship). Sober in the Greek is nepho it means to abstain from wine (keep sober);(wine by implication means intoxication); Sober is used 7times (spiritual completeness). The English word sober is used 12 times (governmental perfection ) throughout the scripture.
1 Thessalonians 5:7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
There is a time coming that is a specific night, and as we are told in that 9th chapter of John in the 4th verse I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the NIGHT COMETH, WHEN NO MAN CAN WORK. Think not of that in the physical since but of the spiritual because as we know the famine of the end times is for hearing the Word of God Amos 8:11 which as we have learned in the 19th chapter of Revelations Christ is the Word of God. A second witness for this time that no man can work would be Ezekiel 3:24. Drunken in the Greek is methusko which means to intoxicate, it is used 4times ( creation-this earth age). Think not of this as Physically drunken but rather intoxicated with the Spirit of Lies. There wine is the poison of dragons and the cruel venom of asp.
1 Thessalonians 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
Here is that word sober which is in the Greek nepho which is to abstain from wine (keep sober). We know from Ephesians 6:14 we are to have on the Breastplate of Righteousness and have the shield of Faith, but here it is different. We also know from Hebrews that by faith Abel, Noah, Enoch, Moses, Abraham etc. was counted righteous. Likewise from that 11th chapter of Hebrews that Faith is the substance of things hoped for.
1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
We see here that in fact it is was speaking of Spiritual Sleep and Drunkenness because regardless of wether we are awake or asleep we should live with him.
Lets go to 1 Peter chapter 5
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary THE DEVIL, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Here are those two Greek Words that were translated Watch and be Sober in 1 Thessalonians Sober-Nepho-abstain from wine(keep sober) and Vigilant-Gregoreuo-to keep awake that is to watch. This looks forward to the time when "The Adversary-Satan" shall be booted out as spoken about in Lamentations 1:10, Amos 3:11 and Rev. 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for THE DEVIL IS COME DOWN UNTO YOU, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. Satan’s role as the tempter. Notice that at the end of the verse is a colon which means what follows is an elaboration of what has been said, a summation.
1 Peter 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Resist in the Greek is anthistemi it means to stand against that is to oppose it is used 16 times (Love). With the time given this looks to Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand <437-resist> IN THE EVIL DAY, and having done all, to stand. Stedfast in the Greek is stereos which means stiff, solid, stable it is used only 4times (creation-this earth age). Resist- Stand Against steadfast-solid in Faith. Knowing what same afflictions are accomplished? Remember this is an elaboration that the devil as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking who me may devour.
Lets go to Habakkuk chapter 2
Habakkuk 2:1 ĥ I will STAND upon my WATCH, and set me upon the tower, and WILL WATCH TO SEE WHAT HE WILL SAY UNTO ME, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
Habakkuk-To Embrace a type of God’s Elect who Embrace his Word. Notice he said he would stand he is ready for action this is not one that is drunken. Tower in the Hebrew is matsowr something hemming in, i.e. (objectively) a mound (of besiegers), (abstractly) a siege, (figuratively) distress; or (subjectively) a fastness it is used 25 times and only translated 1time Tower. The 2nd watch in the Hebrew is tsaphah which means to lean forward, to peer into the distance; by implication, to observe; it is used 37times ( The Word of God)
Habakkuk 2:2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
Plain in the Hebrew is baĈar which means to engrave fig. to explain it is used only 3times (Divine completeness-perfection). Readeth in the Hebrew is qaraĈ it means to call out to, address by name, it is used 737 times (7-spiritual completeness x 100-children of the promise +37-Word of God). The Father told Habakkuk to make a huge sign so everyone can read the warning. Just as God’s Elect today are to sound the warning
Habakkuk 2:3 For the vision IS YET FOR AN APPOINTED TIME, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
The vision-warning that was written upon the tables plainly shall speak at the end in Matthew 24:32 ĥ Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that SUMMER IS NIGH: and in Amos 8:2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of SUMMER FRUIT. Then said the LORD unto me, THE END IS COME UPON MY PEOPLE of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more. It is ripe for the harvest and in the end generation there shall be God’s Elect that this shall speak to for it is given to them to understand the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven Matthew 13:11. It is written it shall come to pass In the Generation of the Fig tree. Be not as those evil servants that say the Lord delayeth his coming and begin to smite his fellow-servants and to eat and drink with drunken.
Habakkuk 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Soul here in the Hebrew is Nephesh. Lifted up in the Hebrew is ĉaphal which means to swell, fig to be elated; it is used only 2times(witnessing-division) that is here and in Numbers 14:44. Upright in the Hebrew is yashar it means to be straight or even just in passing I will just say that Sharon-plain comes from this Hebrew word yashar which is used 29times(departure). We see the opposite of that one that is lifted up the Just which in the Hebrew is tsaddiyq which means just it come from the Hebrew word tsadaq. God’s Elect the Zadok. Faith here in the Hebrew is emuwnah which means firmness, fidelity, steadfastness, steadiness; it is used 49times ( 40-probation +9-Fruit of the Spirit-Divine Completeness from the Lord) It is Translated only 1time (unity) Faith and that is here.
Habakkuk 2:5 Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, HE IS A PROUD MAN, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but GATHERETH unto him ALL NATIONS, and HEAPETH unto him ALL PEOPLE:
Transgresseth in the Hebrew is bagad it means to cover (with a garment); figuratively, to act covertly; by implication, to pillage. Wine in the Hebrew is yayin which means by implication, intoxication. Man here is geber. Keepeth at home in the Hebrew is navah it means to rest (as at home) it is used only 2times (witnessing-division) that is here and in Exodus 15:22. We see here we are talking about the supernatural Satan himself that deceives by intoxication. See the vast majority of the people all nations-all people that is One World Order. Let me also point out that the verse ends with a colon therefore what follows is an elaboration as to what has been said a summation.
Habakkuk 2:6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that LADETH HIMSELF WITH THICK CLAY!
Isaiah 14:4 gives a second witness to this. And in that same chapter they say is this the Man? In the Hebrew this word Ladeth himself with thick clay is ĉabtiyt it means something pledged, i.e. (collectively) pawned goods; this is the only place this word is used. Remember what it said in the last verse he Gathereth all nations and heapeth all people unto himself. The Father states in Eze. 18:4 all souls are mine, they are not Satan’s but gathers them to himself.
Habakkuk 2:7 Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?
Suddenly here is a very interesting word in the Hebrew it is pethaĉ it means TO OPEN (THE EYES); A WINK, I.E. MOMENT. As we know from 1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the TWINKLING OF AN EYE, AT THE LAST TRUMP: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
That will be the taunting proverb taken up against him as spoken in the next verse and in Isa 14:4 Satan shall be a spoil unto the people.
Habakkuk 2:8 Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
We see here it shall be the remnant of the people that shall spoil Satan in Zechariah 8:12 it states For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the REMANENT OF THIS PEOPLE TO POSSESS ALL THESE THINGS.
Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: THE SPIRIT INDEED IS WILLING, BUT THE FLESH IS WEAK.
When the flesh sees things that are miraculous it would cause one to be anxious. But we walk in " The Spirit" therefore in these last days we need to make sure that we take control of our flesh and walk in "The Spirit".
We are instructed to follow the examples given to us throughout the Word of God. Stand and Watch as Habakkuk, or as Paul and Peter Watch-Vigilant-Spiritually Awake and be Sober-Keep from Wine-Intoxication. The closer we get to the time when Satan is booted out his intoxicating spirit shall get stronger and stronger. We know he shall deceive the world by the miracles he shall perform. Do I think God’s Elect have anything to worry about not really but however I do know that he is good or else Christ would not have shortened the time because it states or else no flesh would be saved. Be stedfast vigilant in Faith not wavering as those who are drunken. Keep the watch don’t be pulled aside by miraculous or shocking events that shall take place. Remember Jerusalem is the Barometer of the end times. Watch
