Summary: The Trio decide to try out a little marauder magic, and decide they need one more person to do it….H/G. R/H AU. Set before DH, and HBP.
A/N: I wrote this story a long time ago, and decided to recently post it, hoping to get inspiration to finish it. I love the idea of a catalyst in H/G relationship. Hope you enjoy as well.
Chapter 1
“We are going to need another person to do
this,” Hermione announced, unceremoniously as she sat down on the couch next to
Ron, tipping over the huge stack of books in her arms, next to her.
“What are you talking about?” Harry looked up
from his potions homework, and gave a her a confused
look. Ron did the same, looking flustered as he worked on his Transfiguration.
“The project!”
Hermione emphasized meaningfully.
Both boys immediately gave her their full
attention, homework forgotten, in light of this. Hermione hadn’t been too keen
on the idea, when Harry had first broached it, but as usual, once she got
involved in something, she went full out.
“Why?” Ron demanded, “What do we need another
person for?”
Hermione gave him an impatient look, “Have you
even read the introduction yet?” she asked, referring to the copy of the secret
book they all had at the moment.
Ron looked guiltily down. So did Harry.
Hermione glared at both of them, and then
clarified, “We don’t really need another person to do the actual
transfiguration, but the book says quite specifically that most of the practise
sessions will have to be performed with a partner,” she paused, “There’s only 3
of us.”
“So what?
We can take turns,” Harry said decisively. “My dad, Sirius and Wormtail did.”
“We can, but it will take longer. They also started
a lot earlier
that we are. I
thought you wanted to do this as fast as possible. It isn’t something that can be rushed as
it is,” Hermione said.
“She’s right,” it came from Ron, surprisingly.
The two rarely agreed, and usually not on matters like this, “We need to this
quickly, and it would help to have another person.”
Harry did not look convinced. Trust didn’t
come easily to him. Especially not now. Not after
everything that had happened.
“Who were you thinking about asking?” he said
cautiously, “Not Neville – he can barely do basic Transfiguration.”
Both Ron and Hermione gave him an impatient
look this time. “Don’t be ridiculous, Harry,” Hermione said.
“We’ll ask Ginny, of course,” Ron added.
Hermione nodded in agreement.
‘That’s twice. In one day,’ Harry
thought to himself. Then who they suggested occurred to him. It suddenly seemed
obvious to him. No wonder they both agreed. There wasn’t anyone else who they
all trusted. She was perfect.
Ron and Hermione were both watching him carefully,
reading his expression, waiting for his decision.
“All right,” Harry said. They looked relieved.
“Let’s go get her now,” Ron said, standing up,
eager to tell his sister.
In the last year, the two had become closer,
now that Ginny was over her crush on his best friend. The circumstances of the
summer, and being part of the Order had only made him more protective than
usual – he preferred to keep her nearby. Ginny, for the most part, who was
extremely independent, barely tolerated this from any of her brothers, but more
so from Ron. She seemed to want to have him close as well, and it was easy to understand why,
having come so close to losing him the previous year.
“She’s at the Library,” Hermione announced,
pulling him back down. Ron looked disappointed.
Harry felt a little disappointed himself. ‘Where did that come from?” A part of him
had gotten used to having her in near vicinity. She usually was, with Ron, and
more specifically with Hermione – the two girls were extremely close, a fact
that had slipped his notice
until the previous year at
‘It wasn’t that surprising, actually,’
Harry thought, thinking about it, ‘Hermione didn’t have any close female
friends, and Ron and I can't
be much help with a lot of things. Plus Ginny was…’ it was
there his thought processes stopped. ‘Ginny was…’ and he didn’t want to
think any further about it. It wasn’t the first time,
Harry had avoided thinking about the red-head. It was just getting harder to do
it these days.
Harry glared at his potions homework, suddenly
annoyed. Hermione sent him a curious look, somewhat knowing. He hated that
look. The one which said she knew what was going on in his mind.
And knowing Hermione, she probably did. He
blushed, against his will, remembering who his thoughts had been centred on.
