Whether or not you're a fan of the Final Fantasy series of games, if you're an animation enthusiast this is most definetly a film you should be aware of. While you can't watch the entire movie, as it is still in production and only a trailers are available, it is still worth your time to check this out. I'm not going to go in-depth into the story, as it will probably be best appreciated by those who have played the game which this is a sequel to. If you're interested, play the game. If you've alreay played the game, you can check out various sites for details and theories on the story. Google is your friend. But in terms of animation, this is simply jaw-dropping CGI animation, perhaps the best CGI I have ever seen. The environments are photorealistic, the characer models are amazingly lifelike, and the action scenes look amazing. I've really never seen anything even compare to this in a CGI film, except perhaps the first Final Fantasy movie, The Spirits Within. This really makes you think how much longer untill CGI completely mimics reality. There isn't much to say about the music at this point, the score in the trailers appears to be a rather old orchesteral rendition of "One Winged Angel", a song from FFVII. Yeah, I'm a gaming nerd. At this point, we in the US probably won't see the entirety of this movie for a while, or maybe ever. Square-Enix, the company producing it, has only announced it as a direct-to-DVD release in Japan, heres hoping plans will change at some point, as this is an amazing piece of animation. |
