ZANGZ'S Call of Cthulhu GAMEZ | |||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||
“Call of Cthulhu” is a role playing game (RPG) based on the horror writings of H.P. Lovecraft. Most of the stories take place in the 1920’s and have a pulp feel to them. When I run the game I definitely stress the pulp feel to it. There’s lots of adventure and mystery mixed in with the horror. I also somewhat revamp a bit of the Cthulhu Mythos. I don’t follow Lovecraft’s mythology down to the letter. I place my own villains and characters and monsters into the mix to spice it up a bit and try to keep it from getting too confusing. If you want to read what happened in the scenarios, you can click HERE or on the link at the bottom of the page. Most of the scenarios take place in the fictional town of Arkham, PA which is several miles away from Boston (Which is the town that Lovecraft based Arkham on). What follows will be a synopsizes of what has come to pass for our adventurers/detectives in each scenario. Our cast… Zangz - Me, the gamemaster. Iris Von Beaverhusen (pronounced Baver-house-in) - A 29 year old divorced socialite hailing from Chicago and an author of several humorous essays and books. She’s currently writing a non-fiction book on vampires. Her parents disappeared when she was a child. All they left her was half of a diary. It is her quest to find what happened to them. “Shifty” Ted McGinty - A hard nosed and generally displeasing Private Investigator hailing from Boston. He specializes in sleazy divorces of the rich and famous as well as brandishing several deadly weapons. He has an interesting facial feature, a scar in the shape of a star that surrounds his eye (Elder Sign, anyone). Joe Hennessey - Former Chicago White Sox ball player who was unceremoniously ousted from the sport during very public gambling scandal. He now works for Lazlo McBrain through his uncle Desmond. Peter Franks - Photographer who’s trying to figure out why many of his portrait subjects don’t show up in the developed pictures. He’s also developed an irrational fear of pumpkins. Twitch LeFlambe - A Frenchman and psychiatrist who's also been a collugue of Lazlo McBrain's. Little else is known about this mysterious man. Molly Carter ( Retired Character) - A short, but strong, 30 year old Field Researcher specializing in Egyptology. Hell bent in figuring out a mysterious forgotten language that she found on an ancient Egyptian wall. The writing doesn’t coincide with the rest of the symbols on the wall. Could this have something to do with the Cthulhu Mythos? Recently Molly has retired from her detective work and is now in the process of writing a book on Egyptology. Prominent NPC’s: Lazlo McBrain - Scholar and former Myskatonik University professor. He is the head and founder of the Paranormal Investigation Society of which our detectives are members of. He was, at one time, a great traveler and adventurer. But something horrible happened on an excursion to the Antarctic that left his son dead and his leg cripple. To this day he doesn’t utter a word about it to anyone. Desmond - Lazlo’s trusty man servant. A sweet, warm, older gentleman that tends to many of Lazlo’s needs in McBrain Manor, headquarters to The Paranormal Investigation Society. Elisabetta (Betta) Bathor - Beautiful, yet mysterious leader of the cult group, “The Fellowship of the Black Hand”. They’ve been promised by the Old Ones to co-rule the earth with them if the cult can summon many of the "Old Ones" kind to wreak havoc on the earth. Betta may be reincarnated from some evil being of the past. She wears Victorian mourning outfits and a thin, black veil over her face, just enough for people to be able to view her piercing eyes and red lips. Where our detectives are at……. After meeting under odd circumstances at a museum, then thwarting an evil cult’s plans to summon something VERY bad, our group moves on to solve a “Haunted House” type mystery and disposes of an undead sorcerer. Next up the detectives go up against a small army of living pumpkins and their Pumpkin King in an odd corn maze, after which they take on a few animated skeletons in a graveyard. But their adventure is far from over when they take a nice day trip to the quaint little seaside town of Innsmouth where they find themselves in the middle of a cult war between The Fellowship of the Balck Hand and the Esoteric Order of Adon. Throw in a bunch of Deep Ones rising from the sea and you have one interesting day trip!!Later that year, tow different types of serial killings are taking place in Arkham. The clues to one leads Shifty and Molly into an alternate future where Deep Ones and The Fellowship of the Black Hand rule the earth. The other killings lead Iris and Shoeless Joe on what seems to be a Vampire hunt, only to find that it’s just a pathetic Vampire wannabe. The wannabe is wasted, Iris and Joe have some dealing with some REAL Vampires, Shifty and Molly find their way back to reality and all is well in the world. But then, our group finds themselves summoned to Transylvania, were they have to ward off evil wolves, crooked gypsies and of course plotting vampires…not to mention a creature known as the Guardian of Vampires. But as usual, our detectives come out rather victorious, if not barely alive, until, until they have to travel to Liberty Square, New England and spend the night in a Haunted Mansion and take on many undead things, as well as a the spirit of a spiritualist who’s head is imprisoned in a fortune teller’s globe. After our detectives defeat the evil Madam Leotta and solve the mystery to Gracey Mansion, they go on to Egypt to find the Dark Halls of Thraxion. While there they run into a gaggle of mummies and The Children of the Sphinx. But what else may be lurking around the corner? Perhaps a cave filled with thieves, or a sarcophagus with a rotting mummy of an ancient dark mage, or a secret entrance in a long forgotten church that leads to an ancient buried city where a shoggoth posing as a man attacks our detectives. After lots of dynamite, they thwart him and his minions. What they do find there is an ancient coin. Could this coin be a clue to where an ancient being who was summoned a long time ago may be hidden? It could. They’ll find out in time. But most recently Iris and Shifty took a side trip to the small town of Manitowish Waters were they found themselves stranded on a small wooded island with a bunch of flesh eating zombies. But, Shifty and Iris saved themselves by destroying the small meteor that was causing the dead to rise. Here’s what they’ve acquired…… - Walter Corbitt II’s 3 volumes of diaries - This confirms his grandson’s involvement in The Fellowship of the Black Hand, as well of his own. It also mentions a prophesy of a Dark Queen who will one day rule the earth. - Samuel Corbitt’s accounting notebook - On the last page is scribbled some notes… “8:30pm - Museum - Summoning ritual w/ Betta Bathor present (reincarnate of who?)” “New Orleans, Innsmouth, Cairo, Romania…more?” “Enus Pussfella??? - Livre D’ivon - ORIGINAL!! If so need by Samhain!!!” -The Livre Ivonis - An ancient tome of powerful spells, written in translated in Latin and bound in human flesh. It is the fist version of The Book of Eibon of which there are three. - The Livre Divon - The second translation of the Book of Eibon. - The Livre Eibon - The third and final version of the Book of Eibon. - Iris now has the second half of her long lost parent’s diary. - An odd, small hand held globe. Its use is thus far unknown. - A map and key to the Tomb of Thraxion. - The Staff of Thraxion. - An odd coin. - Meteor Manuscripts (not very important to the plot of Call of Cthulhu, but it got Shifty and Iris out of a sticky situation). |
