<<< Sensei Mark Smith began karate in 1983 aged 10 years with the Shotokan Karate Association of Australia. His last grading with the late Sensei Frank Nowak in 1988 was for his 1st Kyu. Mark joined the Air Force in 1989, but resumed training in 1992 under the instruction of Sensei Mark Johnson (Sale Dojo). Sensei Mark Smith achieved his 3rd Dan in 2001 with Zanshin Shotokan and Sensei T. Kase (9th Dan). Mark has represented Victoria and New South Wales at the Australian Karate Federation championships numerous times and currently holds the position of Assistant Kata coach for the New South Wales Karate Team.
‘Karate has provided me with physical education and mental development, as well as the enjoyment of meeting other people and forming life long friendships. My training has taught me a lesson about progression. Progression within the ranks of karate, and in ones personal life. Karate poses many challenges, not dissimilar to the challenge of life itself. The question is “is karate the challenge for you?” |
