Cetinje ceased to be Montenegro's capital in 1946, when the administration was moved to Titograd (Podgorica). This charming, romantic city keeps an air of its former grandeur in the many residences that once hosted powerful and influential courts, such as the Austro-Hungarian, Italian, French, Turkish, Russian, English and many other embassies. The city is compact enough to walk most of the landmark buildings in half a day and promenade by its parks and gardens.
