Not only would it take forever to transcribe the data found in these two fantastic directories -- it would also step on a few copyright-law toes... However, I do have these two books in my possession and would be glad to provide information for fellow researchers. Please email Anita for more information. These two books provide information for the Greater Gulfport Area including Pass Christian, Long Beach, Mississippi City and Handsboro. For those not familiar with the old city directories, I shall explain the contents of these books by section: Section One contains historical and civic information including photographs of general interest. Section Two contains classified advertisements, announcements for clubs and lodges, and a thorough listing of business and organization names. Section Three contains telephone numbers arranged in numerical sequence. (I suppose this would only help if you remember your relatives' phone numbers...) Section Four contains a complete directory of streets and avenues, gives the names of all householders, indicates ownership of the property, and also includes the telephone number. Section Five contains most of the interesting information including the name of the spouse, the number of dependents under 18 living at home, place of employment of the householder, their position of employment, complete address and all relevant telephone numbers. Section Six contains a list of residents on rural routes leading out from the city. |
