The Formatian Empire is divided up into different regions. The Empire is divided into four Duchies. The duches are divided into three to five baronies. The baronies are divided into six or ten estates. Each estate has between one and three cities.

The Formatian Empire’s colors are White and Red. Each Duchy adds a color to that scheme. Each barony has its own crest, which is usually the color of the Duchy.

Note that all blooded Formatian nobles, and many Formatians themselves, have English accents.

Breya’s Gate is a small town at the foot of Mt. Breya it is located in and ruled by:

Empire of Formatia Ruled by Emperor Justin Formatia XVII
Duchy of Valshire Ruled by Duke Edmund Valshire (Color: Black)
Barony of Hawthorne Ruled by Baron Aldus Hawthorne (Crest: Eagle)
Estate of Treyella Ruled by Lord Wesley Quillian
City of Breya’s Gate Ruled by Sir Robert Valshire

Local Nobility
Sir Robert Valshire (played by ________)
Sir Robert Valshire is the youngest son of Duke Edmund Valshire. He trained under Lord Quillian. Sir Robert is a fair and just man who looks out for his people. He is young, idealistic, and is doing his best to become a good noble. He is currently unwed, and has no squires. Sir Valshire is well respected by the people of Breya’s Gate, though in the greater scheme of nobility, he is seen as the “little brother” to many nobles. He does, however, sit high on the noble table due to his father’s influence.

Lord Wesley Quillian (played by ________)
Lord Wesley is a middle aged knight who was awarded an estate for his service to the crown. He was once a general for the Imperial Formatian army. A life of military service has left him a bitter and fatigued man, quick to anger and rapid in vengeance.
Lord Quillian is respected, though he is at times feared.

Notable Places in Breya’s Gate
Mt. Brea is the small single peak mountain which Breya’s Gate is named after. The mountain is pock marked by craters and caves left by the ancient Dwarven civilization that used to live there. Over the past years, excavations and expeditions into the caves have uncovered relics and tablets from the abandoned Dwarven city of Drethka.  Apparently, the city was a fortress during the Great War, but the defenders of it were killed to a man. Undead walk the halls of the caves, as well as many forms of wildlife, both mundane and cursed.

The North Cross is a sanctuary in the northern quarter of the woods. It is a sacred place that most undead fear to tread on. Commoners and nobles alike often come there to pray to the Faces. The Sanctuary is currently un-maintained by any curator, so it is common practice for visitors to keep it clean and serene.

Lake Halcyon is a medium sized body of water a few minutes hike from the edge of the town. There are scores of ghost stories about colored lights appearing from beneath the dark waters, and undead marching up from the depths. A small tribe of lizardmen make the lake and the nearby river a dangerous place to travel alone.

The Ivytooth Forest is the wooded area just outside of Breya’s Gate. Adventurers, mercenaries, fortune hunters, and merchants often venture through the woods, as it is the only way to reach many neighboring towns. On some days, word of mouth carries quickly and the Ivytooth Forest becomes a sort of marketplace for wares and services. There are many breeds of woodland monsters that live in the forest, though many will leave you alone if you leave them alone. There is also a highly reclusive tribe of Sylvan Elves that live in the forest, though they are seldom seen by human eyes.

Monsters of Breya’s Gate
Goblins are more of a nuisance than anything. In small numbers, they can be pesky, though still dangerous to someone untrained in the arts of combat. In larger numbers, they can be deadly. Goblins are fairly unintelligent, though they have been known to pull some savage (and sometimes deadly) tricks on the Higher Races.
Most goblins don’t get much more than basic weapon training before they set out to make their fortune in the world. It will take an unskilled swordsman no more than five blows to cut down most goblins.

Lizardmen are the aquatic reptilian race that lives in the lake, river, and swampland of Breya’s Gate. They have tough scales and muscular bodies. Lizardmen are of average intelligence, and can be fairly dangerous if they are out to do damage. The majority of the Lizardman population remains in underwater dens, seldom venturing to the surface world. Some, however, see the Formatian Empire as a threat to their homeland, and will defend their territory tooth and claw.

Wisps are glowing balls of pure magic that live in the deep woods. Formatian High Mages theorize that they are borne from Ether springs, and are intimately tied in with the Ether of Anterris. Since many High Magic spells require the use of Ether, which is as important as water to the Wisps, the wisps see many mages as a threat to their ecology. Wisps have supreme magical powers, and are incredibly difficult to hit with magic or weapon blow. There is some rumor that the color of the wisp will indicate its mood. There is also a theory that wisps operate out of some magical hive-mind.

Land Sharks are incredibly tough beasts that burrow through Mt. Breya. These things sometimes come down from the mountain to find food in the forest, but this is rare. Land Sharks are ravenous monsters, consuming anything that gets in their path. Their high activity levels cause them to require constant nourishment, so the Land Shark is not very picky about what it eats.

Undead have always been a problem to civilized people. There are three known classes of undead. The classes are: Diseased undead (identified by the swarms of flies), Cursed undead (identified by runes on the face, or a lack of eyes), and Strong undead (which are usually skeletal). Diseased undead are damaged by remove disease spells, cursed undead are damaged by remove curse spells, and strong undead are damaged by crushing attacks.  Some undead are mindless, some are intelligent. The intelligent ones are by far the most dangerous. Undead feed on the living by killing them and forcing them to resurrect. When a person resurrects by an undead’s doing, the undead will be strengthened by it. The stronger an undead gets, the more powers and freedom it may have. The highest forms of undead resemble the living in that they are mobile, intelligent, and incredibly cunning.

Trolls are nasty beasts that live in the riverlands. They are green and have ugly withered skin. Trolls have amazing regenerative abilities, allowing them to get up after being struck down. Trolls have a weakness to fire- being burned will also stop their ability to regenerate. Some trolls have the ability to spit great distances. Their vile spittle can be poisonous, and carries many types of infections.
An adult or elder troll will have small horns. These are the leaders of the troll families. We do not know much about what the troll’s motivation is, or why they seem to be so hostile towards the Formatians.
