Huron 4 @ FLINT 5--SHOOTOUT October 24th, 2003 Perani's Hockey World Arena and Events Center Attendance: 3,787 The Generals stepped to the ice in what could be thier biggest season in team history, and showed what they could do. Flint defeated the Pt. Huron Beacons by the final score of 5-4 in a shootout in front of a crowd of 3,787 at Perani's Event Center. The rough, tumble and wild game featured 110 penalty minutes, 73 from the Beacons and only 37 from Flint. The game featured the return of Jason "Major" Payne to the Flint lineup, Payne got into an early fight with Ken Fels of Pt. Huron, and drew Fels a 10 minute misconduct. The Generals had strong play on special teams, as two of thier goals were shorthanded, and each of them were within 34 seconds of each other. The goals came from Kevin Kerr(1)and Jim Duhart(1). The team's first goal was also on the power play, as Leo Thomas scored his first true professional goal. The Generals held the lead until Beniot Genesee scored to tie it up at 19:16 of the 2nd period. In the third, Flint's Jim Duhart(2)scored his second goal of the game to pull the Gens ahead 4-3. However, with only 30 seconds left, Pt. Huron's Aaron Brand(1)scored a goal shorthanded to send it to a shootout. In the shootout, Mike Gorman(27 shots, 23 saves)denied Pt. Huron a goal, and Slyvain Dufrense and Leonard Thomas scored shootout goals for Flint, pushing Gorman's record and Flint's record to 1-0-0. Antics ensued at the end of the shootout, with PH coach chasing referees around the ice, and Flint players Martin Woods and Kevin Kerr mocking the Beacons after the goal.
